Edens Zero TV Anime 2021 Release Date, Visuals & More

Edens Zero is a sci-fi manga written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima.

It’s a fast-paced mystery, with plot points executed perfectly in a competent manner. This way of writing is completely different from his other famous work, Fairy Tail.

Now that an anime adaptation is announced let’s see if it’s worth the wait or not.

1. Release Date

The production team announced the anime adaptation of Edens Zero in June 2020.

The adventure and science fiction anime will premiere on April 11th, 2021, and will run for a course of 25 episodes.

Hiro Mashima took to Twitter to reveal the news before the anime’s official Twitter account could.

The show makers have kept a tight lid on their cast and staff information.

With a lot of news, expectations, and attention on this anime, let’s discuss it in detail.

2. Theory Section

This manga has many original fans, who love the concept of sci-fi mixed with a thrilling mystery.

Even so, you know what they say about high expectations…

Let’s get into this article to see what influences the making of ‘Edens Zero.’

I. Popularity of the Franchise

Since Mashima revealed his new manga series in 2018, Edens Zero has had eleven published tankobon volumes by August 2020.

The manga has sold around 100,000 copies in print and was translated into English, French, Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Kodansha USA has also released chapters of the series on digital platforms such as Crunchyroll Manga, Amazon Kindle, and ComiXology.

There is no doubt in the growing popularity of Edens Zero, but is it really that good?

II. Fan Reviews

The series is a pleasant surprise to the fans who were a bit miffed with how Fairy Tail ended. Edens Zero embraces the hallmarks of a typical ‘hero’s quest.

Shiki, the main lead, hitchhikes a space ship away from the only place he has known as home to explore the world.

The lukewarm start is just the beginning, and the well-paced initial outing pays off with multiple twists revealed at the end of the chapters.

Rebecca, who was initially introduced as a character to introduce the hero to the world, adds depth to the universe of Edens Zero.

Happy, the cat, acts as comic relief throughout the series. Comedy is very sparse in this manga, and it could do with some more humorous commentary.

After Fairy Tail ended, many manga fans were let down. But it couldn’t be helped as Mashima had been on a tight deadline to complete the series once and for all.

Edens Zero, in comparison, has a well-structured plot in place. All the events are carefully planned to the littlest detail. It is also darker and heavier themed than his previous works.

This accentuates that Hiro Mashima is a very good writer, and he is just improving one panel at a time.

With all this talk about Fairy Tail with Edens Zero, do they have any link with each other?

III. Connection with Fairy Tail

There is no real interconnection between the two series.

Three of Mashima’s works have shared universes before, and some elements of Rave Master and Fairy Tail could be found in Edens Zero.

The world in this series is reminiscent of Fairy Tail in terms of characters, but it is a completely different sci-fi fantasy.

There is zero relation outside of this.

So, then what is the story about?

3. Plot

Shiki is a human Ether Gear user who lives amongst robots on the planet Granbell, a deserted theme park world in the Sakura Cosmos.

One day, the planet is visited by two space-traveling B-Cubers, (like YouTubers) Rebecca and her cat companion, Happy.

Humans haven’t visited Granbell in over a century, and Shiki befriends them while making videos for their Aoneko Channel.

Shiki learns that he has been living on a separate planet from the rest of the universe.

Together they set out to learn the secrets of the galaxy and the cosmos. Shiki soon finds that making friends may be a lot harder and even more important.

4. Visuals & Trailers

Let’s look into the animation production of the show.

5. Music and Animation

I. Animation Quality

There is no word on who would be tackling this anime, but fans have their hopes.

All the main animation studios are booked for the rest of 2020 and 2021. However, fans are willing to wait for good quality animation.

Rushing the show would cause a major dip in the animation sequences and create outrage, which is the last thing a new anime wants.

There is no news from A-1 Pictures if they would be willing to take up Edens Zero after Fairy Tail.

II. Theme Songs

Edens Zero is a sci-fi, fantasy anime with a focus on teamwork and the plot suspense.

Many fans feel that theme songs similar to Snow Fairy would be apt for the anime.

In contrast, any good ‘hype’ song with an emotional voice would contrast greatly with the show and increase fans’ interest.

Let’s see how the fans are reacting to the news of the anime adaptations.

6. Fan Expectations

With no information regarding the anime production, fans are very impatient to know which studio would be animating the series.

A-1 Pictures is the best bet, but with the studio focusing its attention on various upcoming anime in 2020 like Hypnosis Mic and Warlords of Sigrdrifa, it is debatable.

Fans have many expectations regarding the theme songs, from visuals not showing too many spoilers to catchy tunes to hum to.

They have also suggested bands that could take up this role like Nico Touches the Walls and UVERworld.

Others worry that with so much pressure on the new series, if it turned out to be average, haters would bash it on the internet for months.

According to some, it is better to go into the anime blind, with no expectations, and just enjoy the show’s mysteries.
