Black Clover Introduces Another Contender for Earth Spirit

The introduction of the 4th Spirit is long due since the last Spirit, Undine, was introduced more than 100 chapters ago.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the debut of Earth Spirit as Black Clover finally enters the final arc in the manga, but unfortunately, there have been no signs of the last Spirit yet.

However, the battle between the members of Ryuzen Seven and the Sacred Dragon in chapter 346 has offered new insights by teasing the possibility of one of the members being the contender for Earth Spirit.

Though Tabata has dropped no outright clues about Ryuzen Seven’s Daizaemon being a potential Earth Spirit contender, his Yojutsu makes him a strong candidate nonetheless.

Let’s take a look at all possible Earth Spirit candidates and how Daizaemon fits into this roster of contenders.

Possible Clues about Earth Spirit

We have encountered three Spirits in the series so far, namely, Sylph, Salamander, and Undine. Though there are barely any clues dropped in the manga regarding the true identity of the Earth Spirit, we can predict some characteristics of the fourth Spirit based on the information we have.

1. The Earth Spirit will be probably called ‘Gnome’

The names of all the Spirits in Black Clover were inspired by Paracelsus’s writings about the four elemental beings of the earth.

The series has already covered the first three beings, so there’s only one last being remaining. The last elemental being was attributed to the earth element and was called Gnome by Paracelsus. Hence, it’s quite possible the last Spirit will be called Gnome.

2. It’s possible that the Earth Spirit will be from Diamond Kingdom

There are a number of factors that strengthen the theory of the Earth Spirit belonging to the Diamond Kingdom.

Firstly, the Diamond Kingdom is related closely to the Earth element, since diamonds are basically minerals from the earth and the kingdom has mountains, which is the perfect habitat for a gnome.

Secondly, Diamond Kingdom is the only kingdom that doesn’t have a spirit contracted to it. Fuegoleon’s Salamander belongs to Clover Kingdom, Undine belongs to Heart Kingdom, and Sylph belongs to Spade Kingdom since Yuno is originally from Spade Kingdom. This leaves the Diamond Kingdom the only kingdom without a spirit.

3. The Earth Spirit might serve a Dwarf

There are a number of reasons why we might witness the Gnome serve a Dwarven mage. According to mythology, Dwarves are closely associated with gnomes. They reside in mountainous regions and they are related to the Earth and Metal elements as well.

Moreover, non-human species have a higher chance of forming a connection with a Spirit, which makes the dwarven race an excellent candidate for possessing the Earth Spirit.

4. The Gnome will definitely serve an Earth Magic-user

All the Spirits that have been introduced to use so far in the series serve mages who wield the element they are attributed to. For example, Sylph, the Spirit of Wind, serves Yuno who uses Wind Magic.

The chances of the Earth Spirit serving a non-Earth Magic user are low. The Gnome will probably serve a powerful Earth Mage.

Why is Daizaemon considered a contender for Earth Spirit?

No Black Clover reader had even entertained the idea of Daizaemon being a possible Earth Spirit candidate prior to the release of chapter 346. This was because his design was too underwhelming and the nature of his powers was unknown.

However, chapter 347 turned the tables. It was finally revealed that Daizaemon wielded the power of Earth Magic. Moreover, he can be definitely considered a powerful Earth Mage since he belongs to Ryuzen Seven, the seven powerful mages who are under the direct command of Shogun.

But the real catch was the name of his Yojutsu. We came to know that his Yojutsu is called ‘The Great King of Wisdom’. According to Vajrayana Buddhism, a Wisdom King is a deity who ranks third after Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

Since the Wisdom King is originally considered a powerful being, we can’t deny the possibility that the Earth Spirit might lend a hand to one of Ryuzen Seven’s members.

Other potential candidates for Earth Spirit

Besides Daizaemon, there are other mages in the series who have a chance of getting their hands on the Earth Spirit. Here’s a list of all potential contenders for the Gnome in Black Clover.

1. Charmy Pappitson

Charmy is a half-dwarf, which makes her closely related to gnomes. Furthermore, Charmy is a Magic Knight. Her magical powers and her race give her an edge over other potential contenders for Earth Spirit.

The only reason why I can’t see Charmy possessing the power of Earth Spirit is that she doesn’t wield any Earth Magic.

2. Mars

Mars is one of the popular contenders for Earth Spirit in the Black Clover fandom, besides Sol.

We speculated above that the Earth Spirit’s contender will be a citizen of the Diamond Kingdom. This speculation boosts the chances of Mars being the Earth Spirit’s wielder easily since he’s one of the Eight Shining Generals of Diamond Kingdom.

However, he’s a human and he doesn’t wield Earth Magic either, which greatly hinders his chances of possessing the Earth Spirit.

3. Sol

Sol uses Earth Magic, which already puts her in a favorable position. She isn’t a non-human, but she’s a fairly strong mage, so it’s possible that the Earth Spirit might choose to serve her.

Even though we do have four strong contenders for Earth Spirit, we must keep in mind Black Clover is unpredictable at times. Undine was given to a new character, and the Earth Spirit might get the same treatment if Tabata chooses to do so.
