This week, the relationship between Danvers and Navarro strains even further, and the latter’s sister becomes yet another victim of the ‘curse.’

1. Episode 5 Synopsis/Speculation
One of the most shocking developments in this week’s episode is the death of Navarro’s sister, Julia.
She kills herself by taking off her clothes, carefully folding them, and then walking off into the ice. The episode’s ending suggests that the same curse killed the Tsalal researchers and Annie. Thus, Navarro will be the next target for the curse in episode 5.
Will Navarro be able to survive, or will her fate be like those of the Tsalal researchers?
Finally, Otis Heiss is alive in this week’s episode. He sustained the same injuries as the Tsalal researchers in 1998 but was somehow able to come out alive. Raymond’s jacket on Otis hints at a possible encounter between them, while Navarro is haunted by her sister’s spirit.
While these clues are pretty haphazard, we can predict that it will create a further divide between Danvers and Navarro as we move to the final parts of the season.

This week’s episode of True Detective worsens the relationship between Danvers and Navarro. Danvers finds Navarro’s sister, Jules, distressed and takes her to the Lighthouse. Navarro suspects that she, too, is cursed like her sister and mother.
Meanwhile, Danvers clashes with Connelly, who wants to take over the case of the Tsalal researchers.
Peter discovers a link between the disappearance of the researchers and a former patient named Heiss. Danvers and Navarro visit an ice cave, where they finally find Heiss and the remains of the Tsalal researchers.
Heiss attacks them with a flare gun and traps them inside the cave. The two manage to escape after a lot of struggle but are left visibly traumatized.
The episode ends with Jules escaping the Lighthouse and joining a group of masked men who call her ‘the chosen one.’
