Throughout the first season of Vinland Saga, we only came across Thorfinn as a bloodthirsty warrior who did not care about anything but revenge. He went to great lengths to get strong and killed multiple people with no remorse.
Unlike the first season, the second season of Vinland Saga took an opposite turn and is slowly building up to the events of the slave arc. In the recent episode, titled Oath, we have seen Thorfinn take an oath to never hurt anybody again.
This has left a lot of fans wondering if he will ever pick up his sword and fight again! Let’s find out!
Thorfinn has taken an oath to never fight again in the recent episode of the anime. In the manga, he hasn’t fought without a good reason after the oath. However, he might fight for his dreams in the future.
Why did Thorfinn decide not to fight?
As we already know, Thorfinn swore vengeance on Askeladd for killing his father and lived his entire life on the battlefield. He was constantly searching for strength and killed countless people mercilessly.
However, this thirst for strength quickly ended as Canute killed Askeladd. He was then sold off as a slave to Ketil’s farm for injuring Canute and then lost every inspiration to fight.
Thorfinn eventually found his resolve to live but became a pacifist after having constant nightmares of the people he killed. He then took an oath not to hurt anybody.
Will Thorfinn ever fight again?
After adopting the pacifistic ideology Thorfinn never fought again without a reason and definitely did not kill anybody in the manga. Thorfinn tried to resolve almost every conflict with peace and resembled Thors.
The only time he fought after taking his path was when he was left with no choice but to fight Hild after they encountered each other in the Eastern Expedition arc of the manga. As of now, Thorfinn hasn’t returned to his former glory.
In the latest arc, however, Thorfinn is faced with a predicament. He decides to create a dreamland but his attempts to create peace are opposed by the natives, who do not wish to be invaded.
Thorfinn might need to fight again to achieve his dream. But this fight wouldn’t be meaningless and there would be no merciless killings. As of now, we can only predict the possibilities. We just need to wait and watch to see the direction Thorfinn will take!
