Vinland Saga Season 2 is one of the most anticipated installments by both anime-viewers and manga-readers. The series is nothing less than a historical epic and made its way to the top of the summer 2019 anime list.
Though there is no news of a new season, we can expect the series to be back by the fall of 2022.
Unlike the lack-luster and below-average adaptations of some of the greatest historical manga like Berserk and Kingdom, Vinland Saga wasn’t doomed to disappoint.
Being one of the most critically acclaimed manga of all time, it hasn’t been getting as much attention as one might expect, but the 2019 anime indeed did a great job at introducing the series to the world-wide audience.
The 24-episode long season 1 was essentially a prologue to a tale, which is the prologue to a much bigger tale.
Vinland Saga is fundamentally a revenge story that follows Thorfinn’s journey as he was raised by the Vikings who killed his family. Smaller narratives are set within this world with larger-than-life characters and heart-wrenching stories.
1. Release Date
Season 2 of Vinland Saga is yet to receive an official announcement. Still, we can hope it be out by the fall of 2022. Due to its high production, it might take some time to get a new season.
The director of Vinland Saga hinted at a possible sequel of the anime. In a tweet, he stated that “the story of Thorfinn continues!”.
Anime news leaker @Spytrue [back in December 2019] claimed on Twitter that season 2 is in the works.
2. What To Expect From Season 2
Vinland Saga Season 1 covered 54 chapters from the manga. Season 2 will continue from chapter 55.
In season 1 of Vinland Saga, King Sweyn was assassinated, and Prince Canute executed Askeladd.
After Thorfinn lashes out against King Canute, the new King sells Thorfinn as a slave. With his vision to create a paradise for Vikings, Canute is unable to do so with his current financial standing.
He attacks a farmland (where Thorfinn works as a slave) to gather wealth and turns the farm owner, Ketil, into a rebel. After the plunder, Thorfinn becomes free once again.
It will be interesting to see how Thorfinn proceeds with these tense situations and finds his path. We can expect the slavery arc and the corresponding battle to be in the next season of Vinland Saga.
