Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 4  Release Date, Speculation, Watch Online

King Canute has come a long way in three years in episode 5 of Vinland Saga season 2, titled “The Path of Blood”.

We see the new king show his philosophies and nature as he wanders through the battlefield in person and sends out orders breaking out all traditions and values of the old ruler, his father. His ministers, however, are completely dumbfounded.

He meets up with another one of the local rulers but shows him the true extent of his army’s power and makes him feel powerless enough to turn on their leaders.

1. Episode 6 Speculation: 

Next episode, we will likely see Thorfinn and Einar’s state after he reveals his backstory, bringing back tragic memories from Einar’s past and the invasion of his village. However, Einar learned to forgive him since it wasn’t his fault.

Canute might also show up at the farm, but that might be a bit of a stretch since he is now the king of England. Olmar will have to report what happened to his father, and it is unlikely that he will take it lightly.

3. Recap of Episode 5:

Vikings march on as they follow a white-haired leader, and we see a flashback to the murder of the king by Askeladd. Prince Canute frames Askeladd has gone crazy, and the murder of the king allows him to take the throne.

The Danes had control of England initially, and now after the king’s death, the two countries began fighting again. King Canute took control of the army, and old leaders were again brought back to their position. 

Canute stands over a vast wasteland, the remains of a battlefield and sees the effect of war on all the people in the area. His adviser tries to sympathize with everyone, but Canute does not evade the blame; he knows they are the reason for this.

As the soldiers begin trying to take the girls from the survivors to sell them, Canute says to have them stopped and beheaded. His advisor is surprised as this has always been a tradition, but things are different now that he’s the leader.

Floki meets up with the king and talks about his meeting with Eadric, a coward. Canute has hidden meanings for meeting up with Eadric and is interrupted by Thorkell charging at his army. He tries to get through and attack Canute to stop his battle.

He was so close to taking off Eadric’s head but was stopped by Canute. Floki tries to order him around and tell him to fight another battle, but Thorkell decides who he should fight on his own and gives Canute some war advice before storming off.

The meeting begins with Eadric offering a horde of gold and treasure to Canute, who says this is nothing. The wealth is just to try and get him out of the area, and Canute thinks he cannot leave his territory.

He walks over to the treasure and talks about Ethelred, the other person who calls himself king of England. Canute asks Eadric to help him in killing him in exchange for being able to keep Mercia, but Eadric is hesitant.

They light a massive fire, and Eadric is confused about what he’s trying to do. Multiple fires burn from all over the land, and Canute explains that Mercia has been reduced to nothing more than ash; he has complete control over it all.

Ethelred died the following year of an unknown illness, but he was likely poisoned. His successor fought against Canute after him but died similarly later. Canute will finally be recognized as king of England.

Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. The series is published under Kodansha in its monthly manga magazine – Monthly Afternoon – aimed at young adult men. It currently has 26 volumes in tankōbon format.

Vinland Saga is set in ancient Viking times, where a young Thorfinn’s life goes astray when his father Thors – a well-known retired warrior – is killed while on a journey.

Thorfinn then finds himself under the jurisdiction of his enemy – his father’s killer – and hopes to seek revenge on him when he grows stronger. The anime is loosely based on the expedition of Thorfinn Karlsefni in his search for Vinland.
