True Detective’s mystery seems to be only getting more twisted and complex with every week’s installment. The series reminds me of Dan Brown’s Deception Point, where everyone lies to everyone, but all that gets shrouded by an icy monstrosity.
Liz and Navarro seem to be getting somewhere in this week’s episode. However, that is all based on confessions by a certain person, and he looks extremely suspicious.
Are they doing the right thing by trusting him, or are they slowly plummetting to a painful dead-end?
1. Part 4 Synopsis/Speculation
In next week’s episode, Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will continue diving into the murky waters of the Tsalal murders.
Clark will finally come clean and reveal that he was a part of some experiment involving himself and his colleagues. Now, that experiment could be based on the superstition of a cult that wants to inject life into dead bodies. However, in this week’s episode, Clark’s nightmares suggest that it was somewhat scientific.
Many fans speculate that the experiment involved injecting Clark and his compatriots with a serum derived from a mysterious creature frozen in ice.
The serum was supposed to enhance their cognitive abilities, but instead it turned them into violent and paranoid monsters. Clark managed to escape the carnage without being infected by the serum. That’s why he has continued hallucinations in this week’s episode, and we might see even more blatant effects in upcoming episodes.
However, can Liz and Navarro trust Clark? They are torn between trusting him and escaping the weirdly suspicious scenario. Is he telling the truth or lying to manipulate them?
The detective duo has to make a quick decision and hope it is the right one.

Seven years ago, Navarro arrested Annie for publicly damaging the Sky Mining Factory. However, Navarro is moved by Annie’s philanthropy, which allows her to continue her activities.
In the present day, local hunters are employed to search for Clark. After asking incessantly, Danvers finally opens up about her past with Navarro.
She reveals that their last case was about William Wheeler, a violent offender who murdered his lover. Danvers claim that Wheeler took his own life, but a memory flashes in her mind that hints at either her or Navarro being the killer when they reach the crime scene. Even with their history, Danvers requests Navarro’s assistance in the case, and she agrees.
Thereafter, the two question Annie’s friend, Susan. Susan reveals Annie bonded with Clark at Tsalal but asked for their relationship to be kept secret. Moreover, Susan also dated a Tsalal member called Oliver Tabaq, but he’s not mentioned in any company records because Hank hid it.
At the murder site, Peter employs his cousin Vince, a vet, to inspect the bodies. Vince concludes that six scientists died even before freezing because of a heart attack.
At the nomad camp, Oliver refuses to cooperate with Danvers and Navarro and threatens them with a gun before driving them away.
As soon as they realize that Lund has regained consciousness, they return to Ennis. However, Lund is blind and keeps on having traumatic visions.
When Danvers goes away to resolve a fight, Lund suddenly addresses Navarro and talks about her mother saluting her and her waiting for her mother.
Meanwhile, Peter finally unblocks Annie’s phone, where a scared Annie claims to have found something in a cave.
Suddenly, something grabs her, and she starts running.
