That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, popularly known as ‘TenSura,’ has managed to inundate the hearts of fans with its witty dialogues and subtle comedy which everyone liked.
Although the popular isekai follows some of the cliche and overused tropes of the genre, it still emerged out as a pretty good show.
In a recent report that has gone live confirms the second season of the show. With this news breaking out, it looks like Mikami’s long-suffering adventure is far from over.
1. Release Date
It’s official, the second instalment of the show will be released in October 2020.
That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 has been delayed due to Covid-19. The first cour of the popular isekai series will be broadcasted in January 2021 and the second cour will be released in July 2021. As for the OVA, Slime Diaries, it is scheduled to release in April 2021.
2. Theory Section
In the theory section, I will discuss various facets of the show, such as the studio, what’s my take on the show, it is popular or not, and about the mangaka himself.
Basically, every technicality that accelerates/hinders the production of the second season of That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime.
I. About the Studio
The anime Studio 8bit is returning for the new season. It’s good news because the studio’s work on the show is impressive, all things considered. The studio has also worked in some big projects like in ‘Blast of Tempest,’ ‘Made in Abyss,’ and ‘Darling in the Franxx.’
II. About the Show
If an anime has isekai tagged in it, the show is supposed to be funny and funnier by the end of every episode. And TenSura doesn’t disappoint in that segment.
The whole premise of the show is, in fact, quite appealing; 37-year-old Satoru Mikami falls victim to a random assault on the streets of Tokyo and gets stabbed. When he regains consciousness, he found himself to be reincarnated as this goofy goop of slime.
The story is not anything close to original. Still, the way it is structured makes the characters and arcs compelling to watch. Watch out for the side characters, they are as good as Slime sama.
III. What makes it popular?
This is a feel-good show. A series you would like to watch in a beautiful evening or in the afternoon when it’s raining. What makes this isekai different from the others in the same genre is the general tone and message that it exudes.
It just feels too surreal even to watch. At the same time, soothing too. It’s about an overpowered character slowly taking the world and spreading his influence but through kindness and compassion.
The conflict here isn’t about how our protagonist is going to win a battle but is about how his actions will affect the people around him. Sometimes the show seems too pure and divine.
It perfectly fits in the phrase ‘a breath of fresh air.’ Although it isn’t that faithful to its manga source, it still can engulf us in its realm through its storytelling and the characters. This show is exactly the opposite of Overlord!
IV. About the mangaka
The man behind this amazing creation is Fuse. ‘That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime’ is his first work and was well-received by people.
TenSura was originally a Web Novel and was later on adapted for a Light Novel series.
3. Production Updates
Let’s hope this show also doesn’t fall victim to the hands of Covid-19. Many anime shows are canceled this year due to the pandemic Covid-19.
Regardless of all these, Studio 8bit won’t cancel the show, or that’s how it seems. They aired a key visual saying that the second season will be there in Fall 2020.
– pic depicting that the second season will release in Fall 2020.
4. Key Visual
– All hail Demon Lord Rimuru!!
This visual is probably a reference to the covers of the Light Novels, as in most of them, there’s Rimuru both in human and slime form as well. Sometimes the human form is even holding slime form in its arms.
The PV reveals the title of the second installment, “I decided to become a Demon King.” Moreover, it will be a split cour anime. The other half of the show will air in April 2021.
6. Expected Storyline
The upcoming season will probably cover from the middle of Volume 4 of the Light Novel to that of Volume 8. This season we will get to witness the becoming of a ‘true demon lord’ after Hinata attacked Rimuru while he was traveling but somehow manages to evades him.
Upon reaching home, he finds out that the Tempest is already facing an attack. These sets of events compelled him to say the words ‘I decided to become a Demon King.’ Believe me, you don’t want to miss this one out.
7. Recap of Season 1
Satoru Mikami gets stabbed in the streets of Tokyo and reincarnates as a Slime in another realm. With his newfound skill, he can devour anything and is able to mimic their appearances and skills.
After arriving in a different realm, he starts consuming magical stones for power and eventually finds Veldora sealed up in a magic bubble.
He consumes the dragon too which leads to the unbalance of power in the world, creating a vacuum for other monsters to fill in. After these events, Rimuru goes on an exploration of the world and in the way also becomes the protector of the goblins by becoming the leader of the wolves who were attacking the village of goblins.
Rimuru longs for world peace and that’s why he conducts a meeting among the representatives of the Orcs, Goblins, and Lizardman whilst the internal politics and conflicts are still going on. Later on, Rimuru comes to know about Demon Lords and their intention of attacking the Tempest.
He prepares for a battle with a ragtag group of defenders and is able to defeat the Megalodons without much difficulty. After learning that Ranga and her students are in grave danger in Ingrassia, he embarks on the journey to save them and is successful in doing so.
8. Cast and Staff
It’s most likely to have the same cast and staff. On a side note, there are high chances of including new characters.
The cast and staff for Season 1 were –
- Director – Yasuhito Kikuchi
- Series Composition – Kazuyuki Fudeyasu
- Character Design – Ryouma Ebata
- Miho Okasaki as Rimuru Tempest
- Takuma Terashima as Satoru Mikami
- Megumi Toyoguchi as Great Sage
- Tomiaki Maneo as Veldora Tempest
- Yumiri Hanamori as Shizue Izawa
- Kanehira Yamamoto as Rigurd
9. About TenSura
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, also known as TenSura is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Fuse, and illustrated by MitzVah.
It was serialized online between 2013 and 2016 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was acquired by Micro Magazine, who published the first light novel volume in 2014. Fifteen volumes have been released as of September 2019.
Satoru Mikami, an average 37-year-old office worker from Tokyo with no girlfriend, was asked for marriage advice by his colleague Tamura. After meeting him and his partner, Mikami is stabbed to death by a passing robber.
Upon making some requests during his death, he is reincarnated in another world as a slime with the ability known as a predator. The skill lets him have the power of any creature he devours. Thus he embarks on his isekai journey as the strongest slime in the history of slimes.
