Take a Dip into the Psychedelic Soup with Latest Netflix Special Have A Good Trip

Netflix has recently made another stride towards tapping the millennial market. This time with psychedelics! Enter, Have A Good Trip — Adventures in Psychedelics.

A psychedelic trip is nothing if not completely and entirely individual to the person….uh well… tripping! While there may seem to be certain underlying threads of common themes, like oneness of the world and oneness with the world, the depictions are a unique simulation every time and for every person.

So when I first watched the teaser to latest Netflix documentary Have A Good Trip -– Adventures in Psychedelics, a collection of celebrities sharing their drug stories, I was skeptical from the start.

There was no chance that the doc could give what it promised in its teaser — an all-expansive logical understanding of drugs and how they interact with the human mind.

That said, the documentary is a fun one-time watch for anybody who has had a decently long interaction with the world of drugs. For newbies, the wacky re-enactments and illustrations could be a tad bit overwhelming.

Ironic how the documentary, which aims at normalizing the use of drugs and even daring to give a scientific justification of its health benefits, is essentially non-palatable for those without any experience whatsoever.

Writer and director Donick Cary has a lovely line up of celebrities, including Carry Fished, Anthony Bourdain, and Ben Stiller, among others. There are also other unconventional ones like Deepak Chopra.

The show is best summed up in host Nick Caverman’s description of the show — drugs can be dangerous, but they can also be hilarious!
