The word “Shikizakura” in Japan is given to a special type of cherry blossom tree which blooms twice in a year- one in spring and later in autumn.
This upcoming sci-fi anime is a special anime as it’s an original anime coming from Sublimation Studio and Chuyo TV broadcasting. Sublimation was also involved with some of the well known anime such as The Magus’ Bride, Charlotte, The Rising of The Shield Hero and Psycho Pass.

The series was announced by Chukyo TV and Sublimation on October 1, 2018. Soon after which auditions were held for the voice actors to cast in Shikizakura.

2. Plot for Shikizakura
The story follows a high school student, Miwa Kakeru who, by a strange turn of events, gets involved in a battle between powered suits “Yoroi” and “Oni” that emerge from the demon world.
Oni manifest themselves in this world by possessing humans. Only Yoroi are a fusion of ancient secrets and cutting-edge technology that can protect people from oni.
Kakeru puts on a Yoroi by chance and becomes a semi-official member of a team that fights against oni. Kakeru decides to become a hero who will battle Oni and protect Myojin Ouka, the shrine maiden who is destined to save the world.

In the visual we see the protagonist, Miwa Kakeru and his powered suit, “Yoroi” surrounded by special cherry blossoms called Shikizakura.
In this visual, we see Kakeru and his Yoroi, along with his teammates. We also see the shrine maiden, Myojin Ouka at the center.
4. Shikizakura Trailer
The trailer starts off peaceful and serene, after which we see two powered suits fighting. We get a glimpse of the shrine maiden, Oka Myojin and the rest of the main characters.
After which we see the main protagonist, Kakeru Miwa who encounters an Oni. He fights the Oni with his team. At the end of the trailer Kakeru makes a resolution to become a hero.

I. Kakeru Miwa
The protagonist of the series, Kakeru Miwa, longs to be a hero. He cannot overlook anyone in trouble. After his involvement in a battle with Oni, he decides to become a real hero.
II. Oka Myojin
Myojin is a girl from the shrine maiden clan. Her clan has performed Shikizakura rituals for generations. She is always calm and rarely shows intense emotions.
III. Kippei Nagatsu
Kippei Nagatsu is Kageru’s best friend. He loves all subcultures like occult, special effects and anime.
IV. Ryo Hattori
Ryo Hattori is a descendant of the Shinobi clan. This clan has protected the shrine maiden clan for generations. He is appointed as Oka Myojin’s bodyguard.

The opening theme song title “BELIEVE MYSELF” is set to be performed by Asaka.
She is the person behind the OP of Laid Back Camp.
The ending theme song title “Shikizakura” will be performed by May’n.

9. Conclusion
From the trailer and the catchy theme songs, this original anime series looks really promising. Some parts of the trailer reminds me of My Hero Academia like when Deku fights Nomu.
The similarity between the Nomu and “Oni”, Deku and “Kakeru” makes it really interesting even though they are from different genres.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how Kakeru, who wishes to protect the weak and troubled ones, gains the strength to protect. Will he be able to succeed in finally bringing peace to this chaotic world?

Shikizakura is an original anime by studio Sublimation. It follows high school student Kakeru Miwa, who ends up being an irregular member of a power suit team tasked with battling Oni.
