Re: Zero Season 3: Release Date, Characters, and Expected Plot

With its creations and fanbases, Isekai as a genre has gone a long way. This journey has been incredible, beginning with the debut of Spirited Away and ending with an age when Isekai is more famous than ever.

Re: Zero is an Isekai that appeals to folks who don’t like Isekai at all. Nonetheless, being Re: Zero fans, we have always appreciated it.

However, as you may know, our love of anime has ended. Where is Season 3 of Re: Zero? Is there any formal word about this? Are there any release dates? So, this post will address all of your questions.

This is Everything You Need to Know About Season 3 of Re: Zero. Let’s get started! But before we start, let’s quickly go over Re: Zero and everything we’ve learned to ensure we’re all on the same page.

1. Everything We Know So Far About Re: Zero

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, also known as Re: ZERO -Beginning Life in Another World-is, is a 50-episode TV anime premiered in 2016.

It is an anime adaptation of the same-named light novel. Nagatsuki Tappei wrote the story, and Ootsuka Shinichirou drew it.

Watanabe Masaharu directed the series, which was animated by White Fox. Nagatsuki Tappei and Ootsuka Shinichirou have yet to work on any other manga/light novel, but their mastery of the Re: Zero narratives is impressive.

Regarding directors, Watanabe Masaharu is responsible for Granbelm and Wakaba*Girl.

He has also helped to create anime such as Naruto and Haruhi Suzumiya. If we’re talking about the studio that animated Re: Zero, White Fox, they’ve made some incredible series such as Steins Gate, The Devil Is A Part-Timer and Akame Ga Kill.

It’s no surprise that these actors excel at depicting psychological drama. The anime’s first season ran from April 4, 2016, to September 19, 2016.

However, the second season ran from July 8, 2020, to September 30, 2020.

Returning to Re: Zero’s tale, it’s about a child named Natsuki Subaru who is transferred to a new planet.

How is he transported? Because Truck-kun was distracted by another character, Subaru was transported with an eye blink.

That’s correct! He was buying some groceries in a convenience store when, in the blink of an eye, BAM!

He had never seen anything like this before—a whole new world with a slew of monsters that appeared to be everything but familiar.

Being the Otaku that he is, Subaru recognizes his predicament and begins to look forward to his existence in this dimension.

What is genuine, though, is his naiveté for this world. Subaru is immediately on the lookout for preconceptions, the most significant of which is locating the female of his new world.

During this time, though, he is attacked by some delinquents. Subaru is in great difficulty since these delinquents are from another universe and don’t know who he is.

But just as he is ready to get screwed, a girl named Satella appears out of nowhere and calls to save him.

Even though she was looking for something, she managed to assist Subaru without breaking a sweat.

Our protagonist could see where this was headed. A lovely young lady with white hair has just saved his life.

His desire to see Satella leads him to a cottage where a super-powerful lady murders him.

Oh, that’s exactly as bizarre as it sounds. But things get odd when, instead of dying, Subaru returns to the spot where he was standing before the eye blink.

So Subaru didn’t die? Or did he return in time? Or perhaps he had undone reality?

Such thoughts will cross your mind as Subaru hunts for Satella again, this time to stop her from being murdered by that woman.

The plot progresses as we learn about the life of a man who begins in another universe from Zero.

So, now that we’ve covered the basics of Re: Zero let’s look at the official announcements and release dates for Re: Zero Season 3.

2. Official Announcements And Release Date Of Re: Zero Season 3

We have both good and terrible news for our Re: Zero lovers.

Which one do you want to eat first? Okay, that could be better. The bad news is that there have been no formal statements regarding Season 3’s release date.

The second season premiered this year, so anticipating a sequel so immediately is a bit unrealistic.

Not to say it’s impossible. I mean, programs like Rent-a-girlfriend and Uzaki chan had sequel announcements almost immediately, but they are anomalies.

Generally, anime takes its time talking about its sequel since the popularity of the original is a significant role.

Even blockbusters like Attack On Titan and My Hero Academia did not get a sequel confirmation until months after their prequels aired.

So it’s not a huge issue. You might argue that it’s still terrible news, given how common anime sequel announcements have recently gotten, but that’s yet to be a trend.

It happens, although not very frequently. So, now that we’ve covered the terrible news let’s look at the good news.

The good news is that there will be an announcement, but it will not be an announcement. Allow me to explain. Crunchyroll, you see, interviewed producer Sho Tanaka in 2020.

Sho Tanaka stated something noteworthy during the interview. “I’m convinced that once you’ve done watching this one (season 2), you’ll all be begging for a third season,” he remarked. The Re: Zero producers are enthusiastic about our beloved series, ladies and gents.

Even if it is not an official announcement, it is made by an official. And a substantial one at that.

These guys aren’t messing around. The very thought of an anime sequel is inspirational on its own.

KonoSuba was in a similar predicament. One of the authorities took a favorable attitude, and now there’s a sequel.

Similarly, based on Sho Tanaka’s comments, it is pretty feasible that Re: Zero will receive another season.

So, while there are no “official announcements or release dates,” we do have an official statement from one of the people involved.

That’s quite inspiring. But we’re not going to stop there. Because this is a comprehensive examination, we must include other elements.

Sales, profit, and source material are all elements that might determine if an anime will return to television screens.

So let’s get a little more into them.

3. More Source Material Information For Re: Zero Season 3

Let us now look at the source material for Re: Zero. As you may know, Re: Zero is based on Nagatsuki Tappei’s light novel, which Ootsuka Shinichirou drew.

We have to admire these two incredible artists for producing our favorite series! This fantasy drama series debuted on January 23, 2014, and is currently in production.

In other words, the series’ plot has yet to conclude. This is fantastic news for us since more narrative content equals more seasons. The first nine volumes were covered in the first season, and volumes nine through fifteen were covered in the second season.

We’re going to tackle some basic math here now. The first season adapted nine volumes of the light book, while the second adapted five. So, Re: Zero requires roughly seven volumes every season.

It would be correct to say so. Considering this, does Re: Zero have enough source material to adapt?

The answer is, of course, YES! For those unaware, if the original material is completed or does not have enough volumes/chapters available, the series cannot adapt it in the first place.

If the original material is still being published, this is a manageable issue because fresh stuff will be released most of the time.

This is an advantage for Re: Zero. The light novel is being published, but there are several unadapted volumes.

Assuming that the next season will require seven volumes of the light novel, we can be confident because the series has over 13 volumes yet to be adopted.

So even if the season adapts more than seven volumes, say nine like Season 1, we’ll still have something to watch for the next season.

Yes, that was a happy moment. Overall, all of my Re: Zero fans may be confident that the next season of Re: Zero will have more than enough source material to support it!

There’s no need to rush. So, now that we’ve covered the Re: Zero source material. Let’s see the plot for season 3

4. Expected Plot Of Re: Zero Season 3

Let us now presume that the next season does take place. What is the plot going to be? What will be the plot of the future season? So, now is the time to talk about it.

Let’s try to predict the next season’s plot. So, if you recall, the series had a conclusion (which we will address shortly) that appeared fairly decent but lacked enough specificity to be considered an ultimate climax.

In other words, there was plenty of potential for the series plot to develop. Several questions must be answered.

And these inquiries range from the origins of this realm to Subaru’s teleportation. Furthermore, there are opportunities for the tale to progress, such as character interactions and world-building.

We’d like to see more of Subaru and Beatrice and their relationships with the other characters.

The tale appears to have begun, and it might take several turns. The Royal Selection is the most likely.

As you recall, Emilia has yet to win the Royal Selection to fulfill her vow to Roswaal.

Expected Plot Of Re: Zero Season 3
Roswaal | Source: Fandom

The next season will most likely follow our girl as she attempts to outperform every other contender in the Royal Selection.

She is sure to become a better person with Subaru and the gang by her side.

Furthermore, the connections between Rem and Subaru, as well as Subaru and Beatrice, require further investigation.

The characters have escaped the first situation unscathed. But what does this new world have in store for them shortly?

Not to mention that the light novel is still ongoing, which means that the anime could cover a variety of stories.

The possibilities are endless, but for the time being, they are leaning toward Royal Selection.

So, for the time being, Emilia and Royal Selection are the expected plots of Re: Zero.

5. Why Do We Want Another Season So Badly?

This question may have occurred to anime lovers who haven’t seen Re: Zero or know nothing about it.

However, because this is a whole post, we will also clarify it.

On the surface, supporters may have hundreds of reasons to want another season.

Most fans, though, are motivated by a need for more entertainment. Re: Zero has a beautiful cast and a fantastic plot and execution.

That’s all most anime fans care about. Because the source material contains far more stories than can be told in an anime format, the series appears to have reached its demand limit.

So this is why fans want more of their beloved Re: Zero.

6. Popular Re: Zero Characters

Let’s talk about some characters who might return in the upcoming season. Many of our favorite characters will return if Season 3 is made.

The most notable ones will be mentioned here.

I. Subaru

First up comes our favorite protagonist, who appears to have no fear. His bravery has elevated him from the lowest to the strongest, and his existence in this new world has just begun.

The upcoming season will feature more of his foolishness laced with courage. I’m looking forward to it!

II. Emilia

Our lovely Emilia tan will undoubtedly return in the next season.

As previously noted, the previous season may have followed the Royal Selection. Therefore Emilia will almost certainly receive more excellent screen time in Season 3.

III. Rem

Although she received little attention in the previous season, there’s a significant likelihood that the upcoming season will center on her reawakening.

She has been a fan favorite since season one, and leaving her in the middle will upset many fans.

As a result, she will return in the following season.

IV. Beatrice

Re: Zero Season 3: Release Date, Characters, and Expected Plot
Beatrice | Source: IMDb

Beatrice was one of the most memorable characters from the previous season. Our adorable loli did receive some screen time in seasons 1 and 2, but part 2 was all about her.

In the end, she chose Subaru as her number and continued living her life with him.

Her comeback in the next season would further explain her character and her relationship with Subaru.

Other characters such as Ram, Roswaal, Petra, Fredrica, Garfiel, Otto, and others have a reasonable probability of returning in the following season.

Although contrary to our assumptions, the plot may not be prominently centered on them, they will be present.

7. Other Decisive Factors For  Re: Zero Season 3

Now let’s quickly talk about some aspects of Re: Zero that could decide the potential for another season.

First up is the ending.

8. Re: Zero Ending Explained

The conclusion of Re: Zero focused on Subaru liberating the sanctuary and everyone within it.

Furthermore, Emilia, Ram, Roswaal, and Garfiel have moved on from their pasts and are looking forward to a new beginning.

The finale of Re: Zero was somewhat conclusive but not definitive. So there’s a reasonable probability that if another season is planned, the makers will use that conclusion.

Which they are, as producer Sho Tanaka has revealed. Overall, the conclusion of Season 2 was satisfactory enough to allow Season 3 to begin without incident.

9. Controversy Around Re: Zero

Controversy generates revenue. However, it might cause issues when creating a sequel. Fortunately for Re: Zero, this is not the case.

There haven’t been any significant disputes around Re: Zero. The only thing that came close was the “Emilia Vs. Rem” best girl battle. That, though, is simply the fanbase being the fandom. Nothing too outlandish.

It’s an interchange of ideas, and it worked out well for creators because the demand for Rem figurines increased.

It’s a win-win situation.

10. Conclusion

To summarize, there is an excellent likelihood that Re: Zero will be followed by a sequel.

The only reason we haven’t heard anything yet is that the last episode aired this year.

Otherwise, the suggestion from producer Sho Tanaka, as well as Re: Zero’s outstanding financial record, works in its favor.

Don’t worry, all my Re: Zero fans. Wait a little longer; you’ll see your favorite gal on screen again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Sayonara, until next time!
