The visual above shows a peaceful landscape with a house in the mountains. Two gigantic shadows can also be seen approaching the house. The text reads “Take care, Eren” or “Have a nice day, Eren”, which is confusing for anyone who has not read the manga.
It does sound like a farewell to Eren, but the shadows in the visual do not make it clear enough.
Director Yuichiro Hayashi explains that the visual and the line is intended to let imagination run its course among fans. The ‘nothingness’ in the visual would allow them to imagine a little more about the series’ conclusion.
Even if an exact release date could not be revealed, I did expect a teaser. A visual does not feel like enough of an announcement. As for the ending, there are mixed reactions among the readers but as long it wraps up properly with no cliffhangers, it is good enough.
