Odd Taxi Creators Launch New Project from the Franchise – RoOT

Odd Taxi was one of the most admired anime in 2021. A combination of noir and humor, it got deeper into the characters with every episode and unfolded a murder mystery. And most things unfold as Odokawa, the taxi driver, talks with his customers.

It was something fresh to watch, and now the creators are bringing something new.

On Friday, the official Twitter account for the Odd Taxi anime series unveiled a new project titled RoOT / Route of Odd Taxi. A key visual was also revealed, which showcased the main characters – Sato and Reina.

Kadzuya Konomoto and Takeichi Abaraya, creators of Odd Taxi kicked off the project by launching a manga on Shogakukan’s Superior Darupana website. The original Odd Taxi manga was also launched on the same platform.

Apart from the manga, not much has been revealed about RoOT / Route of Odd Taxi. But the tweet suggests that the manga is the first phase of the project. This means we can expect an anime series or a film someday.

Considering how Odd Taxi was, we can expect this to be equally good. The tone might be different because of the main characters. However, if it belongs to the same universe, then it must gel finely with the original.

Odokawa is a taxi driver who lives an ordinary life and as a slightly eccentric stranger who has no relatives nor any relations with other people, Odokawa’s hobby is listening to Rakugo on the radio before going to bed.

Although, he does have a conversion with his customers – Kabasawa, a college student who wants a buzz, Shirakawa, a nurse who’s hiding something, comedian group Homo Sapiens, who isn’t selling well, and the city hoodlum Dobu.

The conversations with these people, which should not have meant much, lead to a girl who disappeared.
