There are a lot of characters that get to shine in My Hero Academia, but one we do not see enough of is Principal Nezu. From his few appearances throughout the series, I thought I knew the extent of his character, and then chapter 323 happened.

We know Nezu as a polite but strict educator with an unusually high intelligence due to his quirk, who can seem a little crazy when he’s fighting with humans. This comes from his past grudge from when he was experimented upon.

Despite all that, as the UA Principal, his foremost priority is the safety of his students. His quirky personality takes a backseat, as he shows his more serious side in this chapter.

In just a few words, he supposedly summarised the ongoing tragedy of the hero society. He states how lack of understanding and intolerance throws everything into disarray.

Despite understanding all that as heroes, these revelations come too late, or the action is too delayed. This keeps them just one step behind to make it all better, but that one step is often an impossible journey.

When the time does come to take that step, everything has already changed, and the world moves on to new problems.

It also revealed that Nezu is a world-renowned figure for his work on quirk morality education. This is quite fitting for a man of his intelligence and wisdom.

For someone who was unfairly mistreated in the past and his role now, he truly understands the idea of tolerance.

Although we will always smile whenever Principal Nezu makes an appearance, we might never see him just as a funny character again.

About My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is a Japanese superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 2014, with its chapters additionally collected in 37 tankōbon volumes as of February 2023.

It follows a quirkless boy Izuku Midoriya and how he backed the greatest Hero alive. Midoriya, a boy who has been admiring heroes and their ventures since the day he was born, came into this world without a quirk, where almost everybody is born with one.

On one fateful day, he meets All Might the greatest Hero of all time and discovers that he was quirkless as well. With his diligent attitude and unwavering spirit about being a hero, Midoriya manages to impress All Might. He is chosen to be the heir to the power of One for All.
