Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto manga is a modern classic that still has an ever-growing fanbase. With the announcement of a rerun of selected episodes and ‘four new episodes,’ we will all get to relive the world where it all began and the childhood of the characters (and probably ours too).
The world expanded quickly with each new story arc, so there are a lot of characters that fans love. This is why they left no chance to show it by voting for their favorites in the ‘Narutop 99’ character polls.
On Thursday, the official website revealed the results of the ‘Narutop 99’ character polls, which Shueisha’s Jump Comics also shared on its official YouTube channel. Minato Namikaze ranked first place.
The video above shows the top 99 characters that received the most votes. Overall, the poll received over four million votes in the voting period of December 18 to December 31.
Minato Namikaze, also known as the Fourth Hokage, received the highest votes (792,257). Masashi Kishimoto shared his comments regarding the poll, saying that he was shocked to see the character at the top for all regions. He added that he is currently working on a short manga about Minato.
Although he did not share many details, he mentioned that he ended up with more pages than he had thought. The story would also reveal the secret of the Fourth Hokage’s jutsu i.e., the “Flying Thunder God Technique”.
Kishimoto also drew the illustration below, showing the top 22 characters. Although the idea was to draw the top 20, he wanted to add Kurama, who ranked 22nd place. This also allowed Guy to be a part, who ranked 21st.
Narutop 99 was the first character poll from the franchise that was held worldwide, and fans could vote for their favorite character once every day.
Only a few characters could have an interesting short backstory, like Minato, and I am glad that it finally happened. Another character that fans have been looking forward to is Sakumo ‘White Fang’ Hatake, who placed at 7. Given his fame, we might get to see him in the upcoming manga.
