MHA Chapter 420: Raws, Spoilers: Eri Joins the Battlefield, Helps Deku

During their fight in the Vestige World, Deku lost his arms to Shigaraki’s decay. The weakening of Shigaraki’s resolve led to AFO’s return and Shigaraki’s conscience disappearing. Now, Deku’s fight is against AFO.

In chapter 420, titled “From Aizawa-kun,” the story gives us insight into the status of all the heroes who can still fight and how everyone comes together to see the war through.

1. Present Mic and Aizawa’s Absence Explained

The chapter begins from where Kurogiri had previously teleported Aizawa and Mic away. Mic tries to shake Kurogiri awake as he tears up, saying how Shirakumo’s corpse should not have been violated like this. Aizawa points out that he is crying, and Mic denies it, thinking Aizawa is talking about him.

However, Aizawa was referring to Kurogiri, which seems impossible to Mic as Kurogiri is a noumu and can’t cry. He tells Aizawa that he should stop wishing for another miracle like Tarturus.

Aizawa reminds Mic that they managed to create a white spark in the darkness, as long as they remember their origin, they can guide their students. Just then, the mist surrounding Kurogiri flares up as he utters a weak “Yamada,” making Mic cry in earnest, who realizes that memories never indeed die.

2. Heroes Assemble Across Every Battlefield

Aizawa contacts Tsukauchi and asks if Monoma can still fight, but Tsukauchi responds that he hit his head and is unconscious. Aizawa asks for the status of all the heroes who can still fight on the battlefield.

The portals are working for an undetermined time, so Aizawa wishes to gather reinforcements as soon as possible. Death Arms volunteers, along with Astro, from one of Horikoshi’s previous works, Barrage. The civilians hand out their clothes to help bandage up the heroes as well.

Meanwhile, Sero, Sato, and Thirteen are still fighting Gashly. However, Tokage, Kamakiri, and Ectoplasm show up to help, marking the start of Phase 3 of the operation “Divide and Conquer.”

3. Heroes Assemble Across Every Battlefield

The manga cuts to Aizawa arriving at the main battlefield and asking Deku how long it has been since he lost his arms. Deku reveals that he doesn’t know, as he lost them while he was fighting Shigaraki in the Vestige World.

Deku also reveals that Shigaraki’s conscience, which he constantly felt fighting against AFO, is nowhere to be found.

We cut to another flashback of Eri handing Aizawa her horn, as she cannot go to the battlefield but still wants to help. Aizawa is stunned, telling her that this might damage her quirk forever. However, Eri reveals that she has found her dream, which is to sing like Jirou, and wants all the heroes to be happy after the war ends.

4. Divide and Conquer Phase 3

As Aizawa stabs Deku with Eri’s horn, he tells Deku that he must stay alive to hear Eri sing. Ectoplasm, who had helped Eri cut off her horn, told Aizawa that Deku’s regeneration might take a few minutes as Eri does not have much energy.

The chapter ends with Kaminari, Yaoyorozu, Shouji, Kouda, and Mineta joining the battlefield. They all look utterly exhausted but watching Deku giving his all make their bodies move on their own. AFO looks over at the ensemble of heroes warily.
