Kodansha has just announced the winners of its 47th Annual Manga Awards. Earlier, the nominees were introduced from the three categories of Shōnen, Shōjo, and General. These included titles from the past like ‘Skip and Loafer’ and ‘Shangri-La Frontier’.
The winners of this year were announced by Kodansha on Wednesday. Interestingly, two of the three were also nominees from 2022 but never won the award. Here are the winning titles:
1. Shangri-La Frontier (Best Shōnen Manga)

Magazine: Weekly Shōnen Magazine
Rakurou Hizutome is a second-year high school student with extraordinary gaming skills. He is on the lookout for the most infamous games and beating them all. For someone who likes all kinds of games, trying the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier was obvious.
Min-maxing the character and jumping right in is Hizutome’s quality. But will he be able to uncover the secrets of the game?

2. My Girlfriend’s Child (Best Shōjo Manga)

Sachi and Takara are a young high-school couple who also hang out together and even engage in more intimate forms of dating. However, Sachi does not feel right after a recent evening of sex. She buys a pregnancy test and finds out that the results are positive. The revelation changes her life completely.

3. Skip and Loafer (Best General Manga)
Author: Misaki Takamatsu
Magazine: Afternoon
Mitsumi Iwakura, an extraordinary student dreams of getting into Tokyo University and making an impact in the world. Although she is focused, she is unprepared for the ‘different’ life in Tokyo. She comes across Sousuke Shima, one of his classmates who takes life easily.
Despite a poles-apart perspective towards life, the two become close friends.

This year turned out to be a redemption year after all. Make sure you look at the three titles and other nominees and share your opinion about who should have won. With that said, you never know if the other titles might bag the award next year.
