Appleseed takes place in a utopian city surrounded by wastelands. Some genetically-engineered humans who feel no hatred dwell amongst ordinary city folks, being superior in some aspects and inferior in others.

These genetically-engineered humans are called Bioroids. They have no reproductive system, and hence, they have to go through special procedures to increase their lifespan.

This perfect society is governed by a single government with its capital in the city of Olympus. Olympus is highly advanced in terms of technology but not in terms of mentality.

Bioroids constantly face threats from their human counterparts and are feared for their ability to take over the world.

The stories of the trials and tribulations of the two protagonists are told through movies, an OVA, and a TV series with brilliant animation and soundtracks.

5. About Appleseed

The story of Appleseed is set in the aftermath of a world war where the earth has become a utopia-like futuristic planet. The planet is governed by a single government present in a metropolitan city name Olympus.

In this seemingly peaceful state, there are still factions of people who crave power and control over the entire world. There are still struggles between different ethnicities, creeds, and ideals that threaten world peace.

The most conflicted state is that of genetically-engineered humans, called Bioroids. They are unable to feel hatred and act destructively towards anyone. However, Bioroids are fated to either take over the world or be crushed by normal humans.

The two protagonists work for a police unit, ES.W.A.T. where they take care of everyday mishaps and experience each day full of action.
