Also, a quick background of the stars that make up HBO Max’s first renewed show.

1. Anna Kendrick / Darby

The Broadway actress first starred in the 1998 play High Society while her first film was the 2003 movie Camp.

However, her claim to fame was as the cheeky high school friend of Bella Swan in the 2008 movie Twilight. She soon became a household name and had several roles including in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Trolls World Tour, and Pitch Perfect.

Kendrick plays Darby in Love Life who is a young heterosexual New Yorker, chronicled from 2012 to 2020 in the first season.

2. Sasha Compére / Mallory

Debuting on television in a 2011 episode of The Electric Company titled “The Junior Assistant”, Sasha made her film debut in the 2012 movie Coming of Age Films. In 2018, Compére joined the cast of The Dead Girls Detective Agency and played the role of Ali Esser until 2019.

Her other acting roles include appearances in Rizzoli & Isles, Community, and Crowned.

Compére plays Mallory in Love Life, Darby’s outspoken roommate who uses her dry sense of humor and bluntness to tell Darby the hard truths she needs to hear.

3. Zoe Chao / Sara

Zoe Chao made her acting debut in the 2006 film My Girlfriend’s Abroad. After that, she appeared in a 2011 episode of the television series The Protector.

In 2014, Chao landed a recurring role on the television series God Particles and The Comeback. Her other acting roles include appearances in Living with Yourself, Almost Love, and The OA.

Chao plays Sara Yang in Love Life who is Darby’s best friend and roommate since college. She’s sweet and big-hearted and has been in a long-term relationship with Jim (Vack).

She has appointed herself Darby’s relationship coach, but her own love life is less stable than she’d like to believe.

4. Peter Vack / Jim

Peter Vack made his acting debut in a 1996 short titled Dear Diary. In 2005 hs debuted in the movie A Perfect Fit, in which he played the character Ernie.

He landed his first recurring television role in the series I Just Want My Pants Back. His other acting roles include appearances in Homeland, Mozart in the Jungle, and The Blacklist.

Vack plays Jim in Love Life, a staffer at Politico, who is easygoing but with an obvious edge. His and Sara’s relationship is something Darby aspires to, but it may not be built to last forever.

5. Hope Davis / Claudia

Hope Davis made her acting debut in 1990 with the film Flatliners. That year she also appeared in the movie Home Alone, in which she played the French ticket agent. Her other acting roles include appearances in Captain America: Civil War, Strange Angel, and The Newsroom.

Davis plays Claudia Hoffman in Love Life, Darby’s mom. How amazing would it be to follow Darby’s mom in the following season, to get an idea of how their stories match against each other.

6. Scoot McNairy / Bradley

Scoot McNairy made his acting debut in the 2001 movie Wrong Numbers which was followed with the movie Sexless.

His other acting roles include appearances in Angry White Man, Bones, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Narcos: Mexico.

McNairy plays Bradley in Love Life who is Darby’s boss and also has eyes out for his hot employee. He owns the museum tour company where Darby works which is a successful business.

He may seem to have a steady relationship with a stunning fiancee his doting eye that’s fixed on Darby could spell trouble.

7. Jin Ha / Augie Jeong

The next lead could very well be one of Darby’s exes. Augie is Darby’s first adult relationship who has a lasting impression on her life. He seems to never leave her life, as he keeps popping up every now and then.

Ha currently stars in Hulu’s series Devs, and recently sang as Annas in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

8. Gus Halper / Danny Two Phones

Danny Two Phones is called Danny Two Phones because he’s a one-night stand and Darby never manages to learn his last name. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t show up again someday to make her life super awkward.

He is also to be seen in Halper as Joseph on Apple TV+’s Dickinson and earlier has also played one-half of the Menendez brothers on Law & Order True Crime.

9. John Gallagher Jr. / Luke Ducharme

Luke and Darby were at boarding school when they first met. As adults they meet again but only after Luke reaches out to Darby. Nearly two decades later, they’re still attracted to one another.

What happens with Luke before he reaches out to Darby and who all cross his paths along the way, totally interesting!

Meanwhile, as for Gallagher Jr, anyone who grew up in the theater world will recognize Gallagher from his time in Spring Awakening on Broadway. But recently, he’s been doing bits in Westworld season 3.

10. Kingsley Ben-Adir / Grant

After many failed relationships, Darby finally meets and starts dating Grant. We’ll just have to wait and see how this relationship goes. This too would be a great place to start with in the next season. Darby would be in the limelight and yet she wont.

Meanwhile, fans of Netflix’s The OA will recognize Ben-Adir as Karim in season 2. He has previously starred opposite Anna Kendrick in Disney+’s Noelle.

11. Lesley Manville

The veteran actress made her acting debut in a 1974 episode of the television series Village Hall. She played Merle in an episode titled “Dancing in the Dark.” The following year, Manville joined the cast of Emmerdale as Rosemary Kendall.

The actress made her film debut in the 1985 movie Dance with a Stranger. Her other acting roles include appearances in Law & Order: UK, Christmas Present, and Spike Island. Manville is the narrator in Love Life.
