Gundam Build, a sub-franchise of the Gundam series is making a comeback this year. Unlike the original Gundam, where gigantic robots are used to fight enemies in space, this introduces ‘Gunpla Battles’ – a virtual competition where the fighters use Gunpla models built by them.
‘Gundam Build Metaverse’ is the latest installment announced and celebrates 10 years of Gundam Build.
On Wednesday, Bandai Namco Filmworks released a second teaser and key visual for the ‘Gundam Build Metaverse’ mini-series. The main staff for the series was also revealed. It will air on ‘Gundam’ and ‘Gundam.info’ YouTube channels in October and will have three episodes.
The teaser showcases the previous animated series from Gundam Build before showing the visual of ‘Gundam Build Metaverse’. It also shows a brief look of Lah Gundam – the mecha that will be used by the protagonist Rio.
Lah Gundam is a customized version of an Entry Grade RX-78-2 built by Rio Hojo, who learns about Gunpla building from Seria Urutsuki, a local hobbyist. In the Metaverse, he controls his avatar and learns about Gunpla Battles from Mask Lady.
The visual displays Rio’s original look and his dark-haired avatar in the foreground. Other characters like Seria, Mask Lady, Lah Gundam, and other mecha are also shown.
‘Gundam Build Metaverse’ is one of the three parts of the ‘Gundam Next Future -Road to 2025-’ project, which also celebrates 45 years of the franchise. A lot of staff members from other Gundam Build series are returning to handle it. The main members are listed below:

From the synopsis, it sounds like a virtual adventure akin to Sword Art Online but focuses on competition as it always has. The combination of virtual avatars and mecha-meets-metaverse is something unique to look out for, even if you aren’t into Gundam.
About Gundam Build Metaverse
Gundam Build Metaverse is a three-episode mini-series from the Gundam Build franchise to be released in October 2023. It is a part of the ‘Gundam Next Future -Road to 2025-‘ project, commemorating the 45th anniversary of Gundam.
The series involves the Metaverse realm where the user can control their own avatar, interact with other users, play Gunpla Battle, and purchase actual Gunpla.
Rio Hojo, a boy from Hawaii has dived into this new world. He learned Gunpla building techniques in the real world with Seria Urutuski, and Gunpla Battle techniques from Mask Lady in the Metaverse world.
After completing his own original Gunpla, the Lah Gundam, Rio happens to encounter some past champions of Gunpla Battle in the Metaverse realm.
