Everything We Know About The Office Reboot: Dunder Mifflin Returns!

Dunder Mifflin and Co. employees are rumored to be back with their usual antics soon on Peacock, the show’s new streaming platform.

The Office is a mockumentary series that follows a clueless manager called Michael Scott and his employees as they struggle with basic day-to-day activities at their workplace. The show ended in 2013 but gained a new wave of popularity when it was made available on Netflix. However, now that it has moved to Peacock, the chances of seeing more of The Office seem higher than ever.

The sitcom is an adaptation of the British series created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, which premiered in 2005 on NBC. The show struggled to find its audience in the first season but became an instant hit soon after the second season was released, thanks to its hilarious dark humor and satirical undertone.

The Office ran for nine seasons, earning critical acclaim and several Emmys before wrapping up in 2013. Since then, there has been constant speculation about a possible revival of The Office, and fans are hoping that Peacock will finally deliver on their wishes.

On September 25, 2023, a bombshell was dropped by renowned entertainment reporter Matt Belloni in his newsletter, where he said that The Office reboot is not just a rumor but a reality.

The best part is that Greg Daniels, the show’s original creator, is coming back to be at the heart of the project. This means that fans can expect the same level of humor and emotion that made the show a hit from 2005 to 2013 and a cult classic ever since.

According to sources, NBC is planning to announce the revival of the show once the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are resolved. The Office reboot has been on the cards ever since NBCUniversal’s Bonnie Hammer expressed her desire to bring the show to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform.

Fans of The Office are eagerly awaiting the official confirmation, which is reportedly in the works at NBC and Peacock. However, the exact date of the return is still unknown.

The progress of revival will depend on how quickly the scripts and production can be completed, assuming that the rumors are true. A tentative estimate for The Office reboot is late 2024, but that might be too optimistic. Therefore, a 2025 release is the most likely for the sitcom.

The cast of The Office reboot is still a mystery. Fans may hope to see the whole original crew back on screen, but the new show will likely have a mix of old and new faces.

Some of the stars of The Office have moved on to bigger projects in TV or film, like Steve Carell and John Krasinski. They may not have the time or the interest to reprise their roles in the reboot.

However, not all is lost for the nostalgic viewers. Some of the actors from the first run of The Office have said they would love to come back and could be part of The Office reboot cast. For instance, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Rainn Wilson are all enthusiastic about the prospect. Mindy Kaling also said she would join despite being busy with a multitude of projects. Hopefully, all others will follow suit (fingers crossed!).

The Office reboot plot remains a mystery, as no official details have been revealed yet. However, the show’s creator, Greg Daniels, suggested that the revival could feature “lost episodes” that would take place during the show’s original run and show unseen footage from the documentary crew that followed the Dunder Mifflin staff (via MovieWeb).

This way, the reboot could avoid continuity problems caused by the departure of many characters from Scranton and the paper company by the end of the series finale.

Another possibility for The Office reboot plot is to revisit Dunder Mifflin in the present day, with a mix of new and old characters, and resume the “mockumentary” format.

This would allow some original cast members to reprise their roles, as they would still be working at the same office. It would also make it easy to explain why some characters would not return, as they would have moved on to different jobs or locations since the original show ended.

Regardless of the plot, fans can’t wait to follow the lives of Dunder Mifflin’s silly and hilarious employees once again!

Got the rare talent to binge an entire show in a single sitting just like that. Although a sucker for psychological thrillers, no bias for any genre when it comes to a good story. A living proof that Netflix and chill is not a myth!
