Elfen Lied, a Summer 2004 anime, is a dark psychological anime that quickly became popular due to its twisted and gnarled storyline.
The anime was graphic and didn’t shy away from showing catastrophic deshabille onscreen. Ever since the show ended in 2004, fans have been waiting for its return.
In Elfen Lied, the Japanese government has detained a subspecies of humans known as Diclonius in a high-security research facility. Diclonius have invisible hands called vectors which are capable of causing incredible destruction.
Lucy, the first Diclonius, escapes the facility, killing hundreds before finally getting hit on the head by a bullet. The bullet was supposed to kill Lucy but ended up damaging her mental balance.
After this incident, Lucy could only make cat noises. College students Kouta and his cousin Yuka unknowingly take Lucy in while the government sends tropes to devour all of Japan until they find their escaped prisoner.
Elfen Lied is violent, overly gory and in many ways perverse. It contains a truckload of nudity that makes it borderline hentai. If these grotesque details don’t bother you, you’ll have no problem sailing through the anime.
1. Release Date
Elfen Lied Season 2 has not been announced as of now. It has been more than 15 years since Season 1 ended, but there is still no news regarding a new installment. We should receive an announcement for the anime by Fall 2023 if a second season does air.
Unfortunately, the chances of Elfen Lied Season 2 are extremely low. Studio Arms, responsible for producing Season 1, went bankrupt in 2020, and it won’t be possible to get Season 2 unless some other studio decides to pick it up.
2. What To Expect From Season 2
By the end of Season 1, we see Lucy going into shock after one of her horns is destroyed. Kurama reveals that he was Mariko’s father before the two die because of the bomb that detonated inside Mariko. Lucy and Kouta kiss goodbye as Lucy leaves to fight the security team.
It is still unclear whether Lucy survived or not since she suffered from many bullet wounds and also lost one of her horns.
In Season 2, the truth about Lucy’s life would be uncovered. We would also see the events that follow the catastrophe of Season 1.
3. About Elfen Lied
The story of Elfen Lied follows a young girl named Lucy. The plot is set in modern-day Japan, where the government performs inhumane scientific experiments on young girls.
They develop a new breed of humans called Diclonius. Lucy is one of the subjects in these experiments.
In the rage of being tormented for so long, Lucy unleashes bloodshed as she escapes but receives a crippling head injury, leaving her with a split personality.
After that, she meets Kouta and Yuka, who take her in, not knowing of her murderous tendencies. Soon their lives get dragged into government conspiracies involving Lucy.
