Dr. Stone STONE WARS Season 2: Release Date, Visuals & News

The release of Dr. Stone Season 2 was anticipated in December 2019 only when Weekly Shonen Jump began teasing that the Dr. Stone manga series would be making an important announcement and BAM! the guesses were right.

It was the announcement of ‘Stone Wars Saga.’ One of the most interesting and exciting arcs of the manga series.

In this post, we will talk about the Season 2 release date and will also take a look at more details about the upcoming season.

1. Release Date

Weekly Shonen Jump confirmed that “Dr. Stone Season 2” is scheduled for January 2021. A raw scan of the volume confirmed the happening of a second season. No specific release date has been announced yet.

2. Theory Section

In the theory section, I will discuss various facets of the show, such as the studio, what’s my take on the show, whether it is popular or not, and about the mangaka himself.

Listed below is every technicality that accelerates/hinders the production of ‘Dr. Stone Season 2’.

I. About the Studio

There isn’t any change in the studio. ‘TMS Entertainment’ is back and will be responsible for the animation of the show. In the previous season, the studio did a brilliant job, especially in photography and animation quality.

With the overwhelming popularity that the show got, the studio might now be encouraged to make the animation better.

After all, they have good credentials with shows like ‘Detective Conan,’ ‘Megalo Box,’ and ‘Fruits Basket’ backing them up.

II. About the Show

In my opinion, Dr. Stone is one of the most engaging shows in the anime world. The story revolves around Senku and his friends turning petrified humanity back to their normal state.

What makes Dr. Stone interesting is the characters, the setting, and the brilliant use of science. In a world where a majority of humanity is turned into stones, it is now up to Senku and his friends to revive them and bring them back. As intriguing, it sounds as crazy and witty it is.

III. What makes it popular?

Senku Ishigami, the extraordinary genius, is the catch here. His amazing scientific skills and wit makes him one of the most fun characters across the genre.

The charming boy with a mind like no other, goes on a journey to save the rest of humanity from the petrification around 3700 years ago.

Just his existence makes the show more enjoyable and exciting.

IV. About the Mangaka

The writer of Dr. Stone is Riichiro Inagaki. He started his career in 2001 for Shogakukan’s magazine ‘Big Comic Spirits’ and later on moved to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.

He is best known for his work in Eyeshield 21, although Dr. Stone overshadows it. Backed up by Boichi, the illustrator of the manga, they started publishing Dr. Stone in March 2017, which was later adapted into an anime series in July 2019 and became a hit.

3. Production Update

The rumors were ready in circulation about the production of the second installment of Dr. Stone and it was being teased that the release date isn’t far away too, but the latest scan and news have officially confirmed the rumors, and we are getting a new season of the popular series in January 2021.

Old Updates/Rumors

In the early months of 2020, there were rumours about the anime being released in the summer. Now that the summer release is confirmed , one might say that the production is almost done until and unless Covid-19 plays poilt-sport.

Many shows have been delayed because of the pandemic, and if Dr. Stone meets the same fate, it won’t be much of a surprise.

Although back in 2019, the official Dr. Stone account on Chinese social media giant Weibo, posted that the second season will be a ‘continuous broadcast.’

It won’t come as a surprise if it happens because what can you expect from a production team that lives on the edge. Back in Anime Expo 2019 premiere of Dr. Stone, series producer Shushuke Katagiri said

‘The production team is very fond of alcohol.’

4. Key Visual

A new key visual was officially unveiled, and it teases the infamous battle between Tsukasa and Senku. Let the Stone Wars begin.

Another key visual for the second installment of the show was released.

In the new key visual, we can see Senku holding a few items in his hands. It’s not clear what exactly they are, but by the looks of it, they are weapons.

5. Trailer

Second trailer for Dr. STONE Season 2 STONE WARS was released recently.

A new trailer was released yesterday, and it shows the beginning of a war. Finally, Tsukasa vs. Senku is going to be animated. This news is ten billion percent exhilarating.

Why does it feel like I am going to be smarter while the second season airs, and when it’s over, I am going to go back to being dumb?

Initial Trailer:

The teaser features a shot where Senku, Gen, and Chrome are joining fists. It seems like that this is some kind of a vow; fight until the final breath. This is exhilarating!

6. Expected Storyline

Season two of Dr. Stone will adapt the Stone Wars Arc -one of the most anticipated and popular arcs of the manga series.

The show might cover the sparring between the Tsukasa’s Empire of Might and Senku’s Kingdom of Science. There is a high probability of Taiju and Yuzihara coming back on screen in this season as well.

In all and all, this season be a fun-packed roller coaster will all sorts of ups and downs.

7. Recap

After being de-petrified 3700 years later, Senku and Taiju find themselves in ‘The Stone Age’ where all humanity has been turned into stone. The world has changed vastly, and Senku aims to restore it.

He then discovers a chemical mixture featuring Nital, responsible for reviving him. To revive Yuruziha, he and Taiju plan to use the chemical, but the sudden attack of the lion compels them to revive Tsukasa instead. From thereon, a conflict of ideas leads to the formation of two groups — ‘Kingdom of Science’ in Ishigami village and ‘Empire of Might’ where only strong people are celebrated.

As time passes by, the Kingdom of Science gains more gadgets to decode the mysterious petrification. Time also helps them to prepare for the battle which they are certainly going to face against Tsukasa’s Empire of Might.

8. Cast and Staff

It’s highly likely that the same cast and staff will be returning for season two.

  • Director – Shinya Lino
  • Series Composition – Yuichiro Kido
  • Character Design – Yuko Iwasa
  • Mikako Komatsu as Senku
  • Gen Satou as Chrome
