Does Anyone Die in My Hero Academia?

My Hero Academia is heading down a dark path, and no character is safe from death. In most shonen anime, the main or important characters never really die, and even if they do, it’s never permanent. Plot armor is tricky like that.

While there are some exceptions, the outcome is never favorable for the audience. People say breakups hurt but has your favorite character ever died? Nothing can be more devastating than the moment Jiraiya sunk into the sea.

My Hero Academia, too, isn’t guilt-free in this case. While the first episode promised us an adventure like no other, it isn’t as happy-go-lucky as it sounds. Like any other action anime, BNHA promises excellent fights as well as loss and pain.

To save you from any further unexpected grief, here’s a list of all the characters that die in My Hero Academia. Please keep in mind that this article will contain extensive spoilers from the manga, and with that said, let’s get started.

She was critically attacked by Mr. Compress and was ultimately killed by the number two advisor from Dabi’s regiment in an ambush.

Pro Hero Nemuri Kayama, also known as Midnight, was only one of the many casualties of the deadly Paranormal Liberation War.

Before her death, she tried to prevent Gigantomachia from entering the city and causing unmeasurable harm and destruction.

Unfortunately, Midnight failed. Not only was she not Gigantomachia’s match, but there were villains on the giant’s back, such as Mr. Compress, who attacked her.

Midnight braved through her injuries to order Momo Yaoyorozu and Class 1-A to finish sedating Gigantomachia.

However, she was then ambushed by the remaining villains from the Paranormal Liberation Front that led to her demise.

Midnight’s death was confirmed in chapter 296 when, in a devastating discovery, some class 1-A students came across her body.

3. How Did Lady Nagant Die?

Lady Nagant has not died yet and has been taken to an emergency hospital. She is critically injured due to the self-destruct Quirk placed within her by All For One but will probably survive due to the advanced hero society.

Hawk’s last words also shed a favorable light on Lady Nagant’s condition.

Lady Nagant is a hero turned villain. After being disillusioned by the superpower society, she killed the then-President of the Public Safety Commission and was imprisoned in Tartarus under a false claim.

After the assault on Tartarus by Shigaraki, who was possessed by All For One, Lady Nagant and other inmates ended up making their escape.

Recognizing her as leagues above the others, All For One convinced Nagant to capture Midoriya by pinning him as the key to the collapse of hero society. In return, he transferred a Quirk called Air Walk to her.

Nagant quickly found Deku, and a fight immediately broke out between them. In an attempt to catch him off guard, she fired a shot at Overhaul, who had accompanied her.

However, once again, Midoriya managed to save Chisaki’s life while also destroying her sniper barrel. Taken aback by his lack of hesitation in saving an enemy’s life, Nagant was finally a little hopeful.

At this moment, an explosion erupted inside of Lady Nagant, severely wounding her. As it turns out, All For One had transferred a self-destruct Quirk within her as a precautionary measure in case she turned on him.

While Hawks managed to save Lady Nagant from falling, her status is unknown. She has been taken to receive medical aid, and since the hero society is pretty advanced, there’s hope of Lady Nagant surviving.

4. How Did Sir Nighteye Die?

Sir Nighteye died after being fatally wounded while fighting Overhaul. He was impaled by Chisaki’s reconstructed rock spikes and reached his limits.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, there was nothing they could do to help him. After finally meeting All Might, Mirio, and Midoriya, Sir Nighteye passed away.

During the battle against Shie Hassaikai, Sir Nighteye faced off against Overhaul to protect Eri, Mirio, and others. While he managed to react well and hold off against Chisaki, he soon reached his limit.

Overhaul used his Quirk to reconstruct rock spikes and impaled Sir Nighteye. After the villain’s defeat, he was immediately rushed off to the hospital.

Unfortunately, Nighteye had suffered fatal organ damage, and there was nothing the surgeon could do to save him. With not long to live, he said his last goodbyes to All Might, Midoriya, and Mirio — his treasured student.

On his deathbed, Sir Nighteye looked into Mirio’s future, assured the Hero of his bright path ahead, and finally passed away.

5. How Did All Might Die?

All Might has not died yet and is still holding on despite his injuries and Sir Nighteye’s prophecy. He survived the explosion and faced off against the two villains preventing him from assisting Deku.

Even without OFA, All Might vowed not to die that easily, at least not until Deku needed him.

Sir Nighteye’s prophecy still haunts fans of My Hero Academia, and any accident involving All Might leads them to assume the worst. However, Toshinori has braved through everything and continues to assist Midoriya in every way possible.

In the latest chapters, All Might discovered that Deku’s GPS signal disappeared. Before he could do anything, a grenade was thrown at his car.

Fortunately, the Hercules managed to withstand the explosion, and All Might came face to face with two villains aiming to kill him.

Underestimating All Might due to his lack of powers, the villains did not stand down. However, the former’s aura of intimidation soon got to them.

Toshinori proclaimed that the day anything happens to him is the day he dies, and fortunately, that day is not today.

In chapter 316, the fans breathed a sigh of relief after All Might appeared to check up on Deku. This means that he once again managed to fight off the villains and survive.

This chapter made it clear that unless it’s the direst of situations, All Might is here to stay and has no plans to leave Deku alone anytime soon.

6. How Did Deku Die?

Deku is the main character of My Hero Academia and is protected by plot armor. Despite being caught up in the explosion at Haibori forest, there’s no way he’s dead.

However, with All For One focusing his full attention on Midoriya, the latter will have quite a few near-death experiences.

Midoriya successfully avoided his death, which Sir Nighteye predicted, and has continued to do so till date. Despite being hunted down by Lady Nagant — one of the strongest snipers in My Hero Academia, he managed to survive and gain her respect and admiration.

In the last few panels of chapter 316, All For One shifts his attention to Midoriya, and the latter is caught up in the explosion. This has led some to question whether Deku’s dead.

As the protagonist of My Hero Academia, Izuku Midoriya is the guy who intends to become the next Number One Hero, and in the process, establish himself as the Symbol of Peace.

Furthermore, the story begins with Izuku Midoriya narrating how he becomes the Number One Hero, meaning he eventually achieves his goal. As such, his death is absolutely out of the question at this moment.
