Zack Snyder Hopes to Reshoot the Ending of ‘Sucker Punch’ with Original Cast

Summary:

  • ‘Sucker Punch’ Director Zack Snyder plans on reshooting the ending of the film with the original cast.
  • Zack Snyder has a history of reshooting the endings and adding additional content to films post release.
  • This is because theatrical releases are constrained by the censor board, runtimes, etc., which makes many directors feel claustrophobic.

Director Zack Snyder expresses his desire to reshoot the ending of his film Sucker Punch with the original cast.

The 2011 film was his fourth venture as a director and the first film with an entirely new concept. While being heavily criticized for its depiction of women, Sucker Punch was received well by the audience. Moreover, it got its home video release, which added 18 minutes of additional footage to the film.

Talking to representatives of Total Film (via Inverse), Zack Snyder spills the beans on his desire to reshoot the ending with cast members Abby Cornish and Emily Browning. The director also reveals that he’s currently negotiating with Warner Bros. for a chance to do it because he thinks Sucker Punch is still ‘not the fully realized movie.’ Check out his words below:

I’m working with Warner Bros. to try and find a window to go back in. Even though we did an extended version, it’s not the fully realized movie.

I think it’s good [if] I can get those guys, Emily [Browning] and Abby [Cornish] and the crew back in, some reshoots would be amazing.

Zack Snyder has always been a connoisseur of post-release additions and alterations to his films. While many of his movies have been initially disliked by the masses, subsequent changes have primarily served as a considerable improvement on the final product.

Moreover, the director has a long history of returning to his past projects and tweaking them to his heart’s content. He’s already made changes in his past works like 2004’s Dawn of the Dead remake and 2009’s Watchmen. Snyder has also planned alternate ending to his latest Netflix series, Rebel Moon, which is supposed to be released later this month.

So, why does Snyder do that?

Since theatrical releases are monitored by the censor board and must cater to specific age ratings to maximize earnings, they can often be claustrophobic for the director. Snyder, like many of his contemporaries, seems to work better without the imposition of these barriers.

Therefore, we can expect Sucker Punch to have something new for even the haters if Zack Snyder is given a chance to fulfill his ambitions regarding the project.
