Oshi no Ko: Anime’s Opening Song Tops Charts on Spotify and YouTube

Oshi no Ko continues to amaze us by staying at the top when some of the most-awaited shonen series have also begun at the same time. A longer first episode might not seem uncommon to you, but for a debuting series, it is.

Considering the episode was a whopping 90 minutes long and had some intense climactic moments, the series is sure to win hearts.

The opening song for the series, “Idol” is also receiving the same response as it stands at number one on Spotify’s Top 50 most-played songs in Japan. As of today, the song has been played more than 600,000 times on the platform.

A few weeks ago, a short story titled “45510” was released by the creator Aka Akasaka. The story serves as the inspiration behind the opening song and tells the story of Ai from a new lens.

I was amazed by the first episode and how Aqua tries to figure things out in the show business. Thanks to his past memories, he is already looked at as a prodigy. With the director as a guide, he might become a great actor. But can he solve the mystery behind his father?

About Oshi no Ko

Oshi no Ko is a supernatural crime-solving manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020 and received an anime adaptation in 2023.

The story follows a doctor, Goro, reincarnated as his favorite idol Ai’s kid. Ai names him Aquamarine and his twin sister, a reincarnation of a patient at the hospital, Ruby. Ai is later killed by a stalker who was also responsible for Goro’s death. As Aquamarine swears revenge on the stalker for his mother’s demise, Ruby follows the same path as her mother to become an idol.
