On Thursday night, the Wonder Festival Executive Committee announced that the upcoming event would be canceled due to the attendance limits imposed by the central government.

The Japanese Government declared a new State of Emergency for Tokyo and the surrounding three prefectures of Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa.

According to the government, the events have to be limited to just 5,000 people. The festival’s number of exhibitors alone is close to 6,500, thereby leaving the Committee with no other choice but to cancel the event.

The event was scheduled to be held on February 7, 2021, at Makuhari Messe. New details were supposed to be revealed on January 15, but it seems there’s no need for it anymore.

The semi-annual event is known for attracting a huge number of spectators for its garage kits and sculptures that usually represent anime and game characters.

Sadly, this will be the second time the event will be canceled due to COVID19. But now that things are getting normalized, was it necessary to cancel the event?

YES! it was a vital step by the Japanese Government to ensure citizen’s safety. There is a rapid rise in infections in the Greater Tokyo Area, and the Wonder Festival is held just outside Tokyo in Chiba prefecture.

The Committee will be focussing on the next festival right away to ensure that this one-year gap is well compensated and bring back the exuberant Chiba we are missing.
