Through many years, fans have followed Sasuke and have seen him mature from a revengeful boy to a powerful shinobi who saved the world alongside Naruto.
Now, after being labeled a legend, and becoming one of the most powerful existences in the world, he seems almost undefeatable.
However, fans forget that Sasuke is no longer one of the central characters. His position in the series has started to wane and he is no longer as invincible as one would like to believe.
What will his story be in Boruto? Will the new generation bury the legends of old?
1. Will Sasuke die in Boruto?
The very first scene of the series shows Boruto wearing Sasuke’s Headband, holding his sword, and even wearing his master’s signature cloak.
Due to this, the probability of Sasuke’s death is high since it looks as if Sasuke has passed down his things to Boruto before his death, and Boruto is using them as a memento, something to honor and remember his master by.
His death will play a major role in giving Boruto a motive to get stronger. It can also play a significant part in awakening Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan. Considering everything, Sasuke will die in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
2. Why will Sasuke die in Boruto?
There might come a time in the series where Sasuke will die.
Since Boruto is a Shonen series, all the characters will gradually grow stronger, and sooner or later; they will surpass the previous generation.
To do this, the writers need something to motivate the characters to grow stronger and present enough opportunities for them to do so.
Sasuke’s death will be an incident that’ll manage to do both. If Sarada witnesses his death, she would awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan and then later use his eyes to attain Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, helping her realize her true potential in the series.
On top of that, his death will also give Boruto a reason to grow stronger, i.e., to protect his loved ones and take revenge for his master’s death.
Another reason that Sasuke will probably die is that his powers and character overshadow those of Boruto – the main character.
3. Can Sasuke die?
We need to remind ourselves that the new series is about Boruto and his development as a shinobi. So Sasuke, despite being a past hero and a legend in the Naruto Universe, is now nothing more than a plot tool in the hands of the writer.
Right now, Naruto and Sasuke are overshadowing the newer generation, who are supposed to be the main characters of the series. Boruto can only take center stage if the current strongest characters step down or die.
While using their deaths as a means to gain power seems heartless, it has been done for a long time. In fact, even Naruto and Sasuke’s powers were developed through the sacrifices of beloved characters such as Jiraiya and Itachi.
Therefore, Sasuke can die, and his position in the series is no longer as secure as it was in the past.
To refocus the attention on the current generation and moderate the power levels, the writers will either seal Naruto or Sasuke or use their deaths as a turning point in the story.
4. How will Sasuke die in Boruto?
There is a popular theory laid out by a Reddit user that talks about Sasuke’s possible death in the Boruto series.
It speculates that Sarada will die at some point, which will lead to Sasuke using the Samsara of Heavenly Life with his Rinnegan. However, doing so will mean giving up on his own life.
Additionally, Sasuke’s death might also provide Sarada the stimulus needed to awaken her Mangekyou Sharingan.
This theory, while not probable, is an interesting one, among many others. Whether Sasuke will die, the circumstances behind his death and its consequences can only be assumed or theorized, since as of now, Sasuke is alive and well.
