Loudermilk Creator Peter Farrelly Shares His Vision for Season 4 and Beyond

Creator Peter Farrelly discusses his ideas for Loudermilk season 4 before it was canceled. The comedy-drama series originally aired from 2017-2020 but gained newfound popularity after the first 3 seasons began streaming on Netflix.

Loudermilk is an AT&T-owned Audience original that was first released on Prime Video. However, it could not garner enough viewership. The show got a major boost after being made available on Netflix.

While speaking to Deadline, Farrelly explained that he had plans for Loudermilk season 4. His original plan was to show Sam Loudermilk sell his novel and enjoy some amount of fame.

Sam would make it to the inner circle of famous people but still continue running his addiction support group. He would struggle between choosing to be with the people and embracing his celebrity status.

Loudermilk sells his book, finally, and now we cut back three-four years later, his book has come out. That takes a year. It’s a huge hit, and now Loudermilk’s on top of again. Loudermilk is back to being Loudermilk, and yet, he has to deal with these same guys, his group.

While learning about Farrelly’s plans for season 4 is exciting, it does not guarantee that season 4 will happen. The series has faced complications in the past with regard to its cancellation.

AT&T shut down Audience to focus more on HBO Max, leading to Loudermilk and three other original shows without any platform. Farrelly had already filmed season 3, and it still remained unaired. Prime Video later acquired the rights to Loudermilk and aired season 3.

However, the show did not gain enough momentum. Therefore, Prime Video did not renew the series. The show remained on Prime Video until Netflix acquired the distribution rights of the first three seasons.

Fortunately, Loudermilk gained a lot of buzz on Netflix in the US and Canada. It was on Netflix’s top 10 charts for weeks. People are now discovering the series and calling it a hidden gem.

However, Netflix has also acquired distribution rights as of now. The platform is not guaranteed to sponsor and distribute an additional season. Only time will tell if the show’s newfound audience will convince Netflix to save the series and give it a new start.

About Loudermilk

Loudermilk is a Canadian comedy-drama television series set in Seattle but filmed in Vancouver. The show was created by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort, and premiered on October 17, 2017, on the AT&T Audience Network. The series stars Ron Livingston, Will Sasso, Laura Mennell, Anja Savcic, Mat Fraser, Toby Levins, and Mark Brandon.

Further seasons have been conceptualized by the creators, but are as-yet unproduced, as a sponsoring (not just distribution) network is being sought. In January 2024, Sony Distribution licensed all 3 seasons to be available on Netflix as well as Amazon Prime.
