The first time I did this post was exactly a year ago. Asta went head-to-head with Dark Triad’s Dante, and Yuno was, well, thrashed – almost to death – by Zenon.
But a lot has changed since the Spade Kingdom arc. The current Spade Kingdom Raid arc has seen some mad power-ups and some spectacular battles that have redefined the power dynamics in Black Clover.
So, of course, with our main characters constantly one-upping each other, the ultimate question once again arises: Who is stronger? Asta or Yuno?
Asta vs. Yuno: Who is Stronger?
Yuno is stronger than Asta as of Zenon vs Yuno battle thanks to Star magic + Wind magic (with Saint Stage).
His Spirit Dive is fully stable, whereas Asta can only stay in Devil Union – his strongest transformation – for 5 minutes. Yuno annihilates Zenon using the Saint Spirit of Zephyr.
What are Yuno’s Strengths?
Yuno is blessed with mana and has the Wind spirit Sylph by his side. He possesses Wind magic due to the reincarnated spirit of Licht’s son, and Star magic which is his true magical affinity.
He has two new spirit weapons – Spirit of Boreas and Spirit of Euros, and can unlock Saint Stage.
He already has the four-leaf clover grimoire from the Clover Kingdom. He knows myriad spells that he could infuse with Bell/Sylph’s power, like Spirit of Zephyr. He reaches Saint Stage with full resonance to create the Saint Spirit of Zephyr.
This total synchronization with Sylph was only possible since Yuno finally found his true self after gaining the second grimoire from the Spade Kingdom. With this wind-spirit-based Creation-Spirit magic, he can slice through Beezlebub’s heart.
Yuno has already learned 4 spells for his Star magic. One of them – Conjunction, allows him to teleport between stars. This makes him faster than Asta – perhaps faster than any character in the BC-verse.
The latest spell – Quartile Flagellum, revealed in Chapter 310, was strong enough to split Zenon in half. (Although, it is Saint Stage that splits his heart.)
What are Asta’s Strengths?
We all know Asta is BC’s protagonist; if it weren’t for the last few chapters, there is no way Yuno could be at his level.
Asta possesses the five-leaf clover grimoire that links him to Liebe, the devil that grants him Arcane Stage Anti-Magic. Being a devil-host Asta can go into Devil Union mode.
Asta’s Devil Union currently lasts only for 5 minutes. Even after that, he has to wait half an hour before using it – or his Black Asta form again. But in those 5 minutes, Asta is near invincible. He has enough power to create a mini black hole.
He also has 4 swords infused with Anti magic: Demon-Slayer, Demon-Dweller, Demon-Destroyer, and Demon-Slasher. The latter was capable of knocking the demon, Dante, unconscious.
He also has the sense of Ki that he learned from Yami gives him a kind of sixth sense that helps him predict attacks. He’s an excellent fighter, and since he never had mana, he’s learned to win without it.
Some fierce fans of our MC, Asta, think that the only reason Yuno got all those power-ups was so he could be on Asta’s level; he’s just subbing for Asta’s MC duties at the moment. When Asta perfects his Demon Union, he’s going to slay everyone.
Also, his dad is still unknown. It is possible that Tabata gives Asta some major new transformations for the endgame.
On the other hand, Yuno’s upgrade was a long time coming. When Noelle and Asta got their big power-ups, Yuno got none.
Right now, Yuno 2.0 is just 3 chapters old and he’s already beat Zenon at level 1 of his Star magic. He probably only going to get stronger from here on.
Asta and Yuno have and always will contrast each other perfectly – Yuno the Silver/White Knight (Star/Wind magic) and Asta the Black Knight (Devil Union, Anti magic). Yuno can create a star and Asta a black hole.
They balance each other like yin and yang, but Yuno has a slight edge over Asta right now. Although – in Tabata’s world, anything can change anytime.
Who knows – maybe Yuno and Asta will fight that suspicious fourth Zogratis sibling together.
