Oda’s Best Kept Secret: Luffy’s Final Goal Beyond One Piece

One Piece has finally entered its final saga and Luffy is closer to achieving his goal, which actually goes beyond unearthing One Piece and the flashy title of the Pirate King.

Oda had it all planned out from the beginning, the whole story revolves around the theme of Freedom, as Luffy wanted to become a pirate as it was his idea of being “Free”.

Luffy’s true goal is to bring Freedom with the dawn of the new Pirate Era. He will liberate the people from the shackles of the flawed Marines and the overarching evil, the World Government and its sinister leader, Imu.

Here are a few instances where Oda has creatively dropped hints on Luffy’s great dream.

In One piece’s Film, RED there was a scene where Uta couldn’t fathom why Luffy would want to become the Pirate King so badly as she abhorred Pirates due to her traumatizing incident.

Luffy had told her that he wanted to become the Pirate King “to make a new era”, which is why he couldn’t give up on his dreams.

In addition, In the manga chapter 1060, “Luffys Dream.” Luffy’s actual dream isn’t revealed to us yet, however Shanks, Sabo, Ace, and his fellow Straw Hats were privy to it.

Usopp tried to give Luffy a reality check that his dream wouldn’t be possible, however Luffy responded by saying that it could be, if he were to be the King of Pirates.

Anytime Luffy’s dream is mentioned, the characters around him explode in hilarious reactions, I’m guessing it goes along the line of bringing such a blissful freedom where everyone gets to party and eat to their hearts content.

This makes it evident that Luffy isn’t interested in the prestige or the fancy label of the “Pirate King”.

Luffy is interested in attainting true freedom and “The one who is the most free is the Pirate King.”

It’s Luffy’s destined role as it metaphorically ties to the fact that he is the Sun God Nika’s reincarnation and the guiding Light for people.

The Sun God Nika was a Warrior of Liberation and had freed slaves during his time in the Void century.

Luffy will be the light and the Warrior of Liberation in driving out Darkness from his world to bring the dawn of a new pirate era.

He will be able to achieve this goal by defeating Blackbeard, Akainu and finally Imu, the leader of the corrupt World Government.
