List of All the Best MCU Quotes from Each Phase

The MCU began in 2008 with Iron Man and hasn’t stopped since. Dividing itself into Phases, each more ambitious than the previous, the MCU has evolved along with its audience. Now in the middle of Phase Four, it’s hard to deny that MCU is the most influential and successful franchise in cinematic history.

Throughout the years, MCU has had some of the best quotes for the fans to cherish and there have been some specific quotes that have successfully defined each of the four phases. Let’s get into details regarding some of the best quotes of all time in MCU.

1. Phase One

Phase One has only six movies, but that doesn’t stop it from having some of the MCU’s most unforgettable and defining lines. From witty one-liners to heartfelt quotes, these dialogues have become engrained in fans’ minds, perfectly representing why the MCU is so beloved.

I. “This Is Just Like Budapest All Over Again.”

Natasha and Clint have one of the strongest friendships in the MCU. Throughout the Infinity Saga, we saw how both of them were willing to sacrifice their lives to save the other.

Phase One introduced us to the friendship between the two Avengers.

Natasha’s line about Budapest, spoken during the battle of New York, keeps returning throughout the MCU until Black Widow reveals what happened during the mission. Even though the ultimate payoff was disappointing, the Budapest line remained popular throughout the Infinity Saga.

II. “Not A Good Soldier, But A Good Man.”

Captain America was the moral compass of the MCU. Righteous and staunchly committed to justice, Cap was a boy scout to the tee, always willing to lend a hand and fight for what’s right.

In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve asks Erskine why he was chosen for the super-soldier program. Erskine replies that being a good man is more important than being a good soldier.

III. “Puny God.”

Back in the day, we used to live for Hulk’s one-liners. Mark Ruffalo’s take on Hulk in The Avengers, injecting the character with a dry and clumsy sense of humor, would become his trademark.

During their confrontation, Hulk quickly subdues and beats Loki around senselessly, declaring him a “puny god.” The quote is hilarious and illustrates what’s so unique about Hulk.

IV. “Because If We Can’t Protect The Earth, You Can Be Damn Well Sure We’ll Avenge It.”

Loki’s invasion of New York marks the first time the Avengers assemble.

When Toni confronts Loki, he makes it clear that they know things might not turn out great, but the point is they’ll never stop fighting. Even if they lose, the Avengers will always be there to rectify their failure. This line becomes especially poignant considering the events of Infinity War.

The Avengers lose, but they indeed live to fight another day.

V. “I Am Iron Man.”

It’s fitting that the line that launched the Infinity Saga also ends it. At the end of Iron Man, Tony’s confession separated him from all other superheroes; whereas they felt the need to hide their secret identity, Tony embraced it publicly. Tony was Iron Man, even before he had the suit.

Tony became a superhero to right the wrongs of his past. He cemented himself as the ultimate hero after defeating Thanos. Iron Man never did it for recognition or immortality; he did it because it was his duty.

2. Phase 2

Marvel Phase 2 saw the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its Avengers heroes established. Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw the heroes from the previous phase trying to find their way, and these quotes define that journey.

I. “Heroes? There Is No Such Thing.”

Phase 1 of the MCU saw Iron Man come out and call himself a hero before he went on to prove that he might not be responsible enough to wear the armor.

When the fake Mandarin showed up, he made a comment that stayed with the people as these new superheroes. Could they be trusted? As Mandarin said, “There is no such thing” as heroes.

II. “Hail Hydra”

A massive stop was in the middle before Phase 2 of the MCU led to Ultron. We know how S.H.I.E.L.D collapsed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

At this time, Captain America learned that Hydra had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. since the start, and the World War II villains have already earned government positions.

It all fell apart with the first public “Hail, Hydra.” Captain America went to war with his government to save his nation.

From the top down, it was Cap teaming with Black Widow and Falcon to deal with the home-grown terrorists, and this played out even on television in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

III. “We Are Not Gods. We Are Born. We Live. We Die.”

The Phase 1 viewers had widespread doubt about the Asgardian’s place in the world. Were they gods? Or aliens?

There was a moment in Thor: The Dark World where that question was answered, and the MCU emphasized that the Asgardians were not gods, as Odin said, revealing, “We are born. We live. We die.”

IV. “You Get Hurt, Hurt’ Em Back. You Get Killed… Walk It Off.”

Although Avengers: Age of Ultron was the least likable Avengers movie, it had its moments. Captain America delivered the line that helped define Phase 2. “You get hurt, hurt them back. You get killed, walk it off.”

The Avengers had to deal with this in this phase, as they all faced obstacles in their path, and Cap proved to be the one who never once gave up.

V. “Second Chances Don’t Come Around All That Often.”

The last movie in Phase 2 introduced us to the new superhero: Antman.

Hank Pym had the best quote in the movie when he offered Scott Lang a chance to be the new Ant-Man and said, “Second chances don’t come around all that often.”

That was not only a great quote to define Phase 2 but also a quote that foreshadowed the trials and tribulations of the upcoming Phase 3.

3. Phase 3

Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 set up the most significant battle in movie history and marked the end of the road for two of Marvel’s most popular stars.

Phase 3 of the MCU featured the heroes battling each other and finally rebounding to fight Thanos, and these quotes defined that entire journey.

I. “I Promise You; If You Need Us, If You Need Me — I’ll Be There.”

Captain America: Civil War was the movie that destroyed Avengers. The lack of unity was visible when Captain America and Iron Man went to war, and every hero was forced to choose a side.

However, a quote at the movie’s end defined what Phase 3 was about. After Cap went on the run, he left a message with Iron Man, telling him he would be there if he ever needed him. That came true in Avengers: Endgame, where they finally put it all together and won the real war.

II. “Wakanda Will No Longer Watch From The Shadows”

Black Panther showed up for the first time in Captain America: Civil War and the first thing that happened was his father dying. By the war’s end, he became the new king of Wakanda, and his story began.

However, Wakanda remained hidden for many years for its protection, and Black Panther knew he needed to open its doors to help the world. “Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows,” T’Challa said. This led to the country joining the war later against Thanos.

III. “We’re In The Endgame Now.”

In Avengers: Infinity War, the heroes battle Thanos and his forces on Earth and Titan. The heroes even almost won on two different occasions.

However, there was also a chance on Titan where the heroes could have gotten the Infinity Gauntlet if not for Star-Lord screwing things up. Here, Doctor Strange said, “We’re in the endgame now,” a play on the next movie’s title and a fact of life in the war with Thanos.

IV. “Are You Thor, The God Of Hammers?”

Thor went through drastic changes in Phase 3 of MCU. He returned home to Asgard to find out that not only Loki was alive but also that Odin was displaced.

While he was battling Hulk on Sakaar, he spoke to Odin in what was a dream realm. Odin asked, “Are you Thor, The God of Hammers?” This was where Thor realized the power was within him and he never needed Mjolnir, leading him to become an even stronger hero after Thor: Ragnarok.

V. “Avengers Assemble”

Remember when the whole theatre turned into a stadium? Yes, precisely that dialogue and scene.

Out of every movie quote from Phase 3 of the MCU, there was one that defined everything and received loud cheers at theaters when Captain America finally said it.

Captain America held his hand out, and Mjolnir flew into his grasp, getting a smile from Thor. Cap said, “Avengers Assemble,” and the rest was history.

4. Phase 4

I. “I Love You Guys.”

This is one of the best quotes in Spider-Man: No Way Home for its dual meaning, as it reflects Peter three’s happy and emotional mental state. He utters the quote just before the three Spider-Men jump into action, which surprises the other two.

However, it’s a moving quote because it shows Peter-Three’s loneliness. He’d earlier admitted that being with his variants made him feel like he had brothers, hinting that he’d been craving a connection for a long time. Peter-Three’s admission went to show that he was finally happy that he had people he could open up to.

II. “I Love You In Every Universe.”

This was the best quote in Doctor Strange 2, showing the protagonist at his most vulnerable. After finally staving off the threat of Scarlet Witch, Strange professed his love to Earth-838 Christine, claiming that it didn’t matter if she was a variant because he loved her in every universe.

For the protagonist, professing his love was the best he could hope for, and he made it count.

III. “You Are My Sadness And My Hope. But Mostly, You’re My Love.”

Scarlet Witch tried to keep her sadness at bay by creating a new reality that trapped Westview under her spell. After the fiasco with S.W.O.R.D., the Scarlet Witch had no choice but to let go and experience her grief, telling the Hex Vision that her feelings paved the way for his creation.

This quote was when Scarlet Witch was true to herself, allowing the sadness of losing Vision to come to light.

IV. “Love Is A Dagger.”

During Loki and Sylvie’s banter, the pair mulled over the meaning of love, and Loki came to the conclusion uttered in this quote. According to him, love seemed beautiful from afar but was deadly when it came close.

While Loki wasn’t too passionate during his speech, it’s clear that he saw love as a guaranteed way to get hurt.

V. “The World Has Taken Too Much For You To Still Be Considered A Child.”

M’Baku pretty much said what the audience would think when he uttered this quote to Shuri during Ramonda’s funeral. The youngest member of the royal family had lost her father, brother, and mother in a short time, forcing her to change from the happy, bubbly girl she was to a shattered person.

The ordinarily stoic M’Baku was visibly emotional as he sympathized with Shuri for having to put up with so much pain at such a young age. Moreover, it marked the character development of M’Baku and Shuri, as he changed his former opinion of considering her a careless child now that he saw how much she’d changed.
