5. Recap of Chapter 180
After leading his team further south of Vinland and sailing for more than seven days, Thorfinn finally finds a land that meets all of his conditions.
The land has good soil, is close to the forest, has a beach for ship docking and also has a fresh water source. The team rejoices with this new land’s discovery when Thorfinn gives the fifth condition i.e, the land must not have any inhabitants.
The whole team now goes on a mission to find clues about any natives that might be living there. Thorfinn also goes on a search for any clues accompanied by Hild.
While the search was on, Gudrid, and the other women are given the task to prepare food, while Cordellia is instructed to lift heavy items.
Mistaking Cordellia for a man, the fishermen want Cordellia’s help for the heavy tasks and Gudrid tries to clear the misunderstanding. However, Cordellia with her pure heart tells her not to mention anything and goes to work on the heavy lifting duty.
Later, Hild and Thorfinn come across some natives in the forest and Thorfinn leaves some food for them as a token of peace and friendship.
Hild decides to trust Thorfinn’s decision of letting the natives know of their settlement and the two slowly go back to the group. Thorfinn wants to let the natives know that they are new settlers and mean them no harm.
