A new transfer student lands at Ataru’s high school in episode 3 of Urusei Yatsura titled “Trouble Rains Down.”

It was a hilarious episode. The situations Ataru and the others end up in are cringy yet funny. Lum is quite an annoying character, knowing that her only character trait is to loiter around Ataru.

Mendo, the new transfer student seems to have fallen for our one-dimensional Lum and now wants her attention. Shinobu has fallen for Mendo, and Ataru doesn’t like that at all.

Episode 4 Speculations

A new girl might appear in episode 4 of Urusei Yatsura titled “Sealed with a Kiss!!”

It’s time to expand the harem. Seems like the spaceship that flew off at the end of episode 3 has a part to play in the anime. The spaceship contains an alien girl in a capsule, who will most probably wake up in the next episode.

Ataru will end up in more bizarre situations. Now that we have Mendo, things will go even stranger. Let’s see how generic and one-dimensional the new girl will be.

Episode 3 Recap

Shinobu is frustrated with all the flirting going on between Lum and Ataru. She throws a desk at them that hits a guy who came down with a parachute. The guy introduces himself as Mendo.

Shinobu apologizes for the desk but is charmed by Mendo’s beauty and coolness. He immediately becomes every girl’s favorite. He is shocked to know that Lum is attracted to some as uncool as Ataru.

Mendo is running for the presidential election. The boys are shocked to know about his lengths to ensure peace and discipline in the class. To add insult to injury, he exempts girls from all these punishments and rules.

The boys decide to promote Ataru to run for the elections against Mendo. The voting happens, and they get an equal number of votes. Mendo is offended to know that he tied up with a dimwit.

He challenges Ataru to a competition. Whoever cleanly shoots the apple off the head of the opponent will win. The battle starts. Mendo is not able to catch Ataru. When he finally corners him, Lum interferes and electric shocks Mendo.

Mendo decides to give up his life because he lost to a dimwit. He can’t get Lum’s face out of his head. When he lands at school, he meets Lum, and they are captured in his parachute.

Ataru has called out to Shinobu to ask her whether she has a thing for Mendo, to which she agrees. Mendo and Lum land on Ataru and Shinobu, causing Shinobu to fall into Mendo’s hands.

The class goes to a forest for an outdoor learning experience. Mendo invites Lum to go to a cavern with him. She insists Ataru go with her, who insists Shinobu go with them. Shinobu gets ready because Mendo is going.

Inside the cavern, Ataru and Mendo together create a situation to get a chance to get hold of their love. They split into two different paths. However, their plan fails as Ataru ends up with Lum again.

They don’t want their plan to fail again, but they both end up together this time. Now they go on to search for Lum and Shinobu. Mendo reveals that he has nyctophobia and claustrophobia.

The girls finally find them. When they are heading back, they get lost, and the torch’s battery is dead. They get scared but Lum powers up, causing a spaceship to launch out of nowhere and head for the skies.

Ataru and Mendo end up with each other again.

About Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It has a total of 374 chapters and was published from 1978 to 1987. Its anime adaptation received 195 episodes from 1981 to 1986. A new anime adaptation with selected stories began airing in October 2022.

In the series, a humanoid alien race invades the Earth but agrees that if the protagonist wins in a game of tag, they will leave it unharmed. Ataru wins against the alien girl, Lum.

Lum misunderstands and thinks Ataru is proposing marriage, and starts living with him and joins his high school. Ataru is a trouble magnet and gets stuck in weird situations pretty often.
