Lum’s childhood friend Ran shows up with the spirit of vengeance. She wants to steal away Ataru from Lum because Lum was the reason she didn’t get the love of her life.

It was quite a hilarious episode. Ran tried everything she could to get Ataru to kiss her but failed every time. Now she will stick around to get her revenge.

Episode 9 Speculations

A former Lum’s lover might appear in episode 9 of Urusei Yatsura, titled “To Kill with Love Studying Mayhem.” The next episode will also be a hilarious encounter between some new characters.

The lover resembles a giant tiger. He must be a resident of her home planet. It will be quite a shocker for him to discover that his love has fallen for a useless guy like Ataru.

Ataru and his encounter are bound to be funny as hell. I can wait to see all this unfold.

Episode 8 Recap

Lum shows up at the principal’s office with her dad. She is going to enroll in the school. She joins the same class as Ataru. It’s sports festival time, and Ataru learns about a new transfer student.

Her name is Ran. Ataru tries to get familiar with her. Lum interrupts him and takes him away. She sees Ran and tells her to meet her behind the gym later. When we go there, it is revealed that Ran is also an alien and a friend of Lum.

They both talk about their childhood. Ran reminds Lum about their childhood love and how her heart got broken. She reveals her main reason for coming there. She will win over Lum’s love and leave Lum heartbroken.

During the festival, Ran takes Ataru away and tries to kiss him, but Lum interrupts. Later, Ran and Ataru try to kiss again while playing but Ran kisses someone else and drains all his energy.

After the festival, Ran and Lum sit down together to gaze at the stars. Ran gets frustrated again, thinking about her love falling for Lum.

Ran calls Lum behind the school and sends a message through a robot that she is leaving for her home planet and she is organizing a farewell party. She wants Lum to bring Ataru with her.

Ran welcomes them and gives them some cookies. However, Lum finds the cookies suspicious and doesn’t eat them as they will make them fall asleep. Lum goes to the kitchen to wash the dishes.

Ataru asks Ran to kiss him when they have a chance but Ran declines. Ran is actually preparing a fake Ataru to give to Lum, but confusion occurs, and the fake one is swapped with the real one, and Ataru is safe. 

Lum thinks that Ran has gone back to her home planet. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened, as she won’t go until she gets her revenge on her.

About Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It has a total of 374 chapters and was published from 1978 to 1987. Its anime adaptation received 195 episodes from 1981 to 1986. A new anime adaptation with selected stories began airing in October 2022.

In the series, a humanoid alien race invades the Earth but agrees that if the protagonist wins in a game of tag, they will leave it unharmed. Ataru wins against the alien girl, Lum.

Lum misunderstands and thinks Ataru is proposing marriage, and starts living with him and joins his high school. Ataru is a trouble magnet and gets stuck in weird situations pretty often.
