The Silent Hill 2 remake has a total of 8 endings. The original had 6 endings and two new endings- Bliss and Stillness were added in the remake.

The eight endings in the Silent Hill 2 remake are-

  • Silent Hill 2 In Water ending
  • Silent Hill 2 Maria ending
  • Silent Hill 2 Rebirth ending
  • Silent Hill 2 Dog ending

  • Silent Hill 2 Bliss (New)

The endings require different choices to be made and actions to be taken. Each path leads to a different ending, and it all lies in the hands of the player.

2. The Leave Ending

The Leave Ending is one of the most straightforward endings in the game and is considered the “good” ending, as it sees James Sunderland accept his actions and leave Silent Hill with a sense of closure.

To unlock this ending, you must focus on keeping James in good health and avoid any major connections with the other characters, particularly Maria (a projection of James’s mind).

How to unlock the Leave ending?

  1. Keep James healed throughout the game by using medical supplies regularly and avoid losing Health.
  2. Don’t check on Maria in the hospital or the Labyrinth. Do not interact with her unless absolutely necessary.
  3. Do not look at Angela’s Knife after the first glance.
  4. You can look at Mary’s Photo or Letter a maximum of two times.
  5. Wait and listen to the sick-bed dialogue in the long hallway at the end of the game.
  6. Carry the ‘Personal Items’ into the Employee Elevator at the Lake View Hotel.

This ending reflects James’ desire to move on from his trauma and all that is representative of it- Silent Hill and Maria.

3. The In Water Ending

The ‘In Water Ending’ is an ending where James gives in to his despair, ultimately resulting in a tragic conclusion.

This is one of the darker or ‘bad’ endings in Silent Hill 2 and involves crazy and reckless gameplay, playing as though James has a death wish, indicating he no longer seeks redemption or wishes to live.

How to unlock the In Water ending?

  1. Make sure James has low health throughout the game, and avoid using medical supplies to heal.
  2. Examine Angela’s Knife thoroughly multiple times.
  3. Do not look at Mary’s Photo or Letter after the first glance.
  4. Wait and listen to the full sick-bed dialogue at the end of the game.

The In Water ending shows James succumbing to his grief and guilt, and giving up his passion and thoughts for the future. He reaches a point where he ultimately decides he cannot live with what he has done.

This ending plays out with a bleak, somber atmosphere, in line with the emotional weight of the story.

4. The Maria Ending

In the Maria Ending, we see that James abandons his desire to reunite with Mary and instead focuses on Maria, a woman who resembles her, but in reality, is a projection of his sexual desires and regret.

This ending suggests that James is still in denial about his past and the events that led him to Silent Hill, including the sickness of his wife and the eventual outbreak that led to her death.

How to unlock the Maria ending?

  1. Check on Maria whenever possible in the hospital and the Labyrinth.
  2. Do not look at Mary’s Photo and Letter in your inventory.
  3. Listen only to the first half of the sick-bed dialogue in the long hallway.
  4. Do not carry Personal Items into the Employee Elevator at the Lake View Hotel.
  5. Protect Maria from being harmed throughout the game.

The Maria Ending hints that James is replacing Mary with Maria, refusing to face the reality of what he has done.

It presents a more unsettling outcome as James chooses to continue living in delusion.

5. The Rebirth Ending

The Rebirth Ending is only accessible on a New Game Plus of Silent Hill 2. The Rebirth ending involves James attempting to resurrect Mary through an occult ritual.

This ending ties into the Eldritch and Lovecraftian parts of the Silent Hill universe, involving the supernatural elements.

How to unlock the Rebirth ending?

To get this ending, you must collect four specific items during your second playthrough in the New Game Plus-

  1. Book of Crimson Ceremony – Found in the graveyard where you first meet Angela.
  2. White Chrism – Located in front of Baldwin Mansion after exiting Jack’s Inn with Maria.
  3. Obsidian Goblet – Found inside the Silent Hill Historical Society, near the painting of Pyramid Head.
  4. Book of Lost Memories – Located in the Lost and Found room on the first floor of Lake View Hotel.

Once you finish collecting all four items, complete the game normally, and you’ll trigger the Rebirth ending.

In this ending, James plans to use these occult items to bring Mary back from the dead, showing his refusal to accept her death and we see deeper into the eerie supernatural aspects of Silent Hill.

6. The Dog Ending

The Dog Ending is a humorous ending and is sort of an Easter egg left by the developers. This ending is once again accessible only on a New Game Plus.

In this ending, James discovers that all the events in Silent Hill have been controlled by a Shiba Inu dog named Mira.

How to unlock the Dog ending?

  1. Collect the two Broken Key Parts.
  2. The first part is found in a pet store near Big Jay’s in East South Vale (accessible in New Game Plus).
  3. The second part is located on Katz Street in West South Vale, near Baldwin Mansion.
  4. Combine the two parts to form a complete key.
  5. Use the key to unlock the Observatory Room beside Room 312 in Lake View Hotel.

The Dog Ending is one of the most iconic joke endings in video game history (Silent Hill has another, next up on the list), it gives the players a lighthearted break from the grim and uncomfortable atmosphere of Silent Hill.

7. The UFO Ending

The UFO Ending is another comedic, fan-favorite ending that involves aliens abducting James (Funny, but is it stranger than ghosts?). Like the Dog Ending, it’s only available in New Game Plus.

How to unlock the UFO ending?

  1. Collect the Blue Gem from a jeweler’s store near Big Jay’s in East South Vale.
  2. Use the Blue Gem at the following locations:
    • The rooftop of Saul Street Apartments.
    • The pier at Rosewater Park.
    • In Room 312 of Lake View Hotel.

The UFO Ending plays out with James being taken away by aliens in a UFO, and being told by the aliens that there was a SPACE James and he was just a clone- adding to the list of ridiculous alternate endings the Silent Hill series is known for.

8. The Bliss Ending (New Ending)

One of the new endings introduced in the remake is the Bliss Ending, which revolves around James using an unusual drink called White Claudia.

How to unlock the Bliss ending?

  1. Head to Pete’s Bowl-a-Rama.
  2. Find a safe that requires a code.
  3. The code can be found on a Bloody Note at the end of the road near the Historical Society (It is 1887).
  4. You’ll find the Rusted Key inside the safe, which opens another safe in Brookhaven Hospital’s garden.
  5. This safe contains the ‘White Claudia’ drink.
  6. Drink the White Claudia in Room 312 at Lake View Hotel to trigger the Bliss Ending.

In Bliss Ending, James experiences a seemingly unreal moment. He cannot differentiate between what is real and what is not. Is he hallucinating? Is it a dream come true? We do not know. But it only deepens our doubts about the powers of the weird town of Silent Hill.

9. The Stillness Ending (New Ending)

Stillness

The Stillness Ending is another new addition in the remake, accessible in New Game Plus for new players and returners alike.

How to unlock the Stillness ending?

  1. Find the green car near Nathan Avenue and after breaking its windows with the Chainsaw, obtain the Key of Sorrow.
  2. Use the Key of Sorrow on the safe found in the Manager’s Office of the Otherworld Hotel.
  3. Obtain a postcard that triggers the ending from the safe.

The Stilness ending is a profound ending in which James shows both his remorse and loses his will to live. We see either the powers of Silent Hill acting up or his imagination, where Mary appears for just a moment. James decides to end it all as the screen darkens, and we hear a car crash.
