The Biggest Tragedy in WorldEnd: Chtholly’s Death

WorldEnd or Suka Suka, at first glance, appeared to be your average isekai story with an overpowered main character who has a Harem. However, it proved to be otherwise this time; the focus is not our overpowered MC; instead, it’s the supporting characters.

The very first episode gave the impression the end is not going to happy. Few minutes in, and people are bleeding, jumping off from airships, and saying their last few words; it is a tragedy. In a way, the title states that a whole box of tissues would be required to proceed further.

The end of the first episode left us confused. How was Willem alive 500 years ago even though he is a human? Does it mean he is dead? To answer that, Willem originally existed in the world 500 hundred years ago. During this time in the final battle with the Visitors due to the backlash, he was petrified for 526 years. He woke up two years before the event of the anime.

1. Chtholly’s death

At the start of the anime, we are introduced to Chtholly. She is this bright, happy go lucky girl chasing around a cat who wants to see the island. We later learn that she lives at the warehouse where Willem is assigned a job to protect weapons.

She reveals that the children and herself are the weapons he is supposed to protect. She belongs to a race called Leprechauns, a Fairy-type creature used by Guardian Wing Military as secret weapons.

Chtholly’s condition was already impaired due to excessive use of Venenum ( Life Force), and it deteriorates to the point that she loses herself entirely and her hair turns red. She falls into a comatose state during the timer attack.

Even though she in a coma, she watches Willem getting injured from the dream world and pleads with Elq to let her go and save him. She wakes up and jumps off the airship to fight back and forces Fairy Gate to open. Using her last reaming strength, Chtholly gets up and returns to Willem to thank him and dies.

The end hints that Chtholly reincarnation into Ryehl, who has a similar appearance and personality to Chtholly.

I. Willem Kmetsch

Five hundred years ago, Willem was an orphan, found by an orphanage’s caretaker, and later grew up in the same orphanage to be the next caretaker. He joined the Quasi brave to fulfill his dream to become a Regal Brave warrior.

Willem used a forbidden spell in the battle that petrified him while the human race went extinct in the war. Nygglatho, 500 years later, discovered his petrified body. With the help of elite doctors, he was nursed back to health. He later accepts a job from Grick to become a caretaker of a warehouse, and he becomes their father figure to the children.

II. Nephren

Nephren is a Leprechaun child living in the warehouse along with Chtholly.

At some point, she started having visions that implied she was ready for battle.

Nephren becomes a Fairy Soldier after training. Nephren adores Willem and considers him to the most important person in her life.

Nephren’s excessive use of Venenum gave rise to her Mental Disintegration, thus explaining why her eyes changed into red color. However, Chtholly healed her effects of Mental Disintegration.

The scene made it seem like both Willem and Nephren died, but they are very much alive.

III. Willem and Nephren Are Stuck in the Dream World

Despite the earlier speculation that Willem and Nephren died along with Chtholly, it is false. They are trapped inside the dreamworld of Chanteur, which ultimately brings them back to the past timeline before the war.

Willem learns the truth behind the True World from some research documents and learns that humans become timere. Willem and Nephren escape the dream world by killing Almarian, who is possessed by a beast.

Both of them return alive from the hell hole they went through, but it wasn’t the time to be happy. Chanteur splits to possess Willem and Nephren, and Willem starts becoming a beast himself. To save him, master Nils seals Willem’s memory to trap the beast inside him.

Since Willem’s memory is locked, he doesn’t recognize Nephren. Nephren decides to leave Willem and go on a separate way because she doesn’t want Willem to remember his tragic past.

Willem and Nephren are half beasts, and therefore they cannot die from old age; they can only die when they are killed.
