A young girl’s life transforms for good after being kidnapped and sold to the palace. Now confined to the walls of the palace, her life could have ended up only to serve the emperor. However, the girl had something others didn’t – a profound knowledge of medicine.
‘The Apothecary Diaries’ shows the journey of a country girl who never thought that the royalty will find her of immense value. Instead of staying a concubine, she assists them as a doctor and even saves them from conspiracies.
The official website for ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ anime adaptation released a teaser video and a new visual on Saturday, with a new addition to the voice cast. It also revealed that the anime will premiere sometime in October. Crunchyroll will stream the series worldwide at the same time.
The teaser shows the interactions between Maomao and Jinshi, a eunuch at the imperial court who also looks after the internal affairs and the harem. Maomao is also shown tasting food, approving it for Gyokuyou, the empress consort.
‘The Apothecary Diaries’ tells the story of Maomao, a girl with a deep knowledge of medicine. She gets kidnapped and sold to the imperial court. Initially, she tries to keep a low profile, but Jinshi discovers her and promotes her as an attendant for Gyokuyou, who shall taste her food for poison.

There are a lot of green flags for the anime. The combination of solving mysteries and medicine adds a new touch. The character designs, and the animation are smooth. Overall, there is no question that this anime deserves a chance, especially when light novels are popular.

‘The Apothecary Diaries’ is a light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The series will be receiving an anime adaptation in 2023.
