Episode 4 Speculation
Mahiru and Amane have started considering themselves as friends, calling each other by their given names. Although they decided not to tell anyone about them being neighbors, Chiisato and Itsuki have now seen her at the neighboring house. In the next episode, Amane and Mahiru may try to devise an excuse for the situation.
But seeing as how they know about his neighbor helping him out, they may need to tell them the truth.
As Itsuki and Chiisato are Amane’s friends, it probably won’t take too much to explain everything. Mahiru might even start befriending them as well.

Episode 3 Recap
Amane’s mother shows up unannounced at his apartment to see how he is doing. Knowing his mother will misunderstand the situation between him and Mahiru, he gives her one of the keys and tells her to hide in his bedroom and leave while his mother is distracted.
However, his mother’s sharp intuition detects something is wrong, and they find a sleepy Mahiru in his bedroom. Amane’s mother gets very excited about him having a girlfriend, even when they try to tell her everything.
After Amane’s mother leaves, Amane apologizes to Mahiru, but she tells him that she found her nice and she is happy that someone called her by her first name in a long while since she doesn’t have close friends who do, and neither does her parents. Amane calls her Mahiru, and they both decide to call each other by their first name. Amane also lets her keep the spare key.
The final results come out, and Amane does well, but Mahiru gets first place as usual. Seeing how hard she always works, he decides to reward her and gets her cake. Mahiru is happy, and they both eat it together.
Amane decides to start cooking as well as he realizes how much he is getting spoiled by Mahiru’s cooking. Mahiru decides to supervise him. His attempt doesn’t turn out the best, but Mahiru reassures him and tells him that she will have him help around the kitchen with small jobs so he can get used to the process.
Chiisato and Itsuki ask Amane to have a Christmas Eve party at his apartment. Amane tries to deny at first but hearing Chiisato constant requests, he gives in. During dinner, he tells Mahiru about it, and she tells her to let her know when the party is over.
Amane notices Mahiru looking a little lonely since she doesn’t have plans with anyone and puts the idea of spending Christmas together. While thinking of what they would do on Christmas, they decide to play games on his console at Mahiru’s request since she has never played them before.
Itsuki and Chiisato arrive on Christmas Eve, and they all talk while eating. Amane tells them to stop snuggling in front of him, and Chiisato teases him about his lack of a girlfriend. It starts snowing and they get excited about the first snow of the season.
Itsuki and Chiisato go out on the balcony and lets out a surprised gasp. Amane rushes out and sees that they are facing a surprised Mahiru in the adjacent balcony.
