Taika Waititi on Thor: Love and Thunder and Ragnarok

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he is strongly considering adapting Jane Foster’s breast cancer storyline for the upcoming Thor film.

In the comics, Jane Foster is diagnosed with breast cancer and also becomes the new Thor after the original Thor Odinson is deemed unworthy of lifting Mjolnir. While Jane Foster is in the Thor form, she is immune to cancer, but it also speeds up the ravaging of her body in the human form. The balance of the heroic duty and her inevitable death made Lady Thor a complex but appealing character in the comics.

“I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally I love that story line. But whether it ends up in the films is yet to be seen. We’re not sure if we’re going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline. These things change throughout the shoot and even when we’re editing sometimes. Like let’s get rid of that storyline where she’s got breast cancer. We’ll change it to something else or maybe she’s fine.” said Waititi.

Well, if you take Ragnarok – which is a very outlandish and big, bombastic film – we’re trying to double down on everything we did with that. And create something that’s even more crazy, more fun, and even more of a big, big adventure. I don’t really decide this… but Thor and Korg are a bit of a duo in [Love and Thunder]. So, my character’s coming back, and we’ll see both of them together.

About the movie

Kevin Feige announced the movie titles, including Thor: Love and Thunder, along with the other movies for MCU’s phase 4. The movie is in the production phase and will begin filming in 2020. Taika Waititi will be returning as the director after the massive success of Thor: Ragnarok. Well, the news is that Gorr the God Butcher will be the villain for the movie, and our favourite CGI character Korg will get a more prominent role.
