Starfield players are worried about big day-one patch to fix bugs

In 2022 and 2023, buggy launches were among the biggest causes of headaches for gamers. Some titles had minor bugs, which the players were okay with. Still, most titles became borderline unplayable because of bugs, the most prominent example being Cyberpunk 2077.

Now, with the launch of Starfield just a month away, fans are worried that developers Bethesda will accompany the release with a “Day One” patch that could be up to an extra 50 GB in addition to the game.

Day One patches are some form of a remedial procedure. These aim to fix bugs and issues and make general improvements identified after the product was finalized and manufactured but before the title reached the consumers’ hands.

The leading cause for Day One patch is cruel crunch hours. They are becoming increasingly common.

The concern on the part of fans is justified. Bethesda’s track record for Day One patch includes a Day One Patch bigger than the Fallout 76 game.

Starfield, in itself, has a humongous file size of 125 GB. If a Day One patch is applied on top of this, it could have one of the most significant file sizes ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2’s 120GB or even Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s 175 GB.

Starfield is already available for download, but not for play, on Xbox Game Pass, and for people who have pre-ordered the game. However, it recently emerged that everyone else can pre-download the title from 9th August.

This will give players an excellent window to have the game downloaded and ready to go ahead of Starfield’s launch date of 6th September.

Some fans are optimistic as Bethesda has come out clean about how Starfield is the “least buggy game” they have ever released. This, coupled with the 12-month delay for Starfield, hints at a more miniature Day One Patch if there is to be one.

Regardless of these minor apprehensions, fans eagerly await Bethesda’s first new IP in over 25 years. Starfield will be an experience of galactic proportions, and players can explore more than 1000 planets when the game launches on 6th September.
