Space Battleship Yamato can be termed as one of the pioneers of space anime in Japan.
The concept of the series was so revolutionary and new that it influenced the creation of Mobile Suit Gundam. It has also influenced further innovations in the same genre.
The story revolves around outer space conflicts between the troops of Earth and the aliens. The battleship, Yamato, is a spacecraft that carries our heroes to their missions.
The series has been adapted into several anime, manga, and anime movies.
The official website of Space Battleship Yamato announced that the “Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199” and the “Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202” anime will be combined into a single film.
The compiled film is titled “Space Battleship Yamato Era: The Choice in 2202,” and it will be released in Japan on 15th January 2021.
Space Battleship Yamato Era: The Choice in 2202 is listed with 120 minutes of runtime. It will contain narration by Harutoshi Fukui.
It mainly focuses on the 2202 story and will show some new animation shots. It will reconstruct both the series but from a new perspective.
The anime film will be screened in 36 selected theatres in Japan for 3 weeks. A new sequel project of the franchise called Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey will be released next winter in Japan.
“Space Battleship Yamato 2199” debuted in Japan in 2012 while “2202” debuted in 2017.
Both of them were animated by Xebec. They are a remake of the original Yamato series. Both the anime series are streamed by Funimation.
