Movies based on games are a hit for many reasons, they are action-packed, full of humor, and people love watching the characters of their favorite game come to life.
Now, if we talk about the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movie, everyone who has played the game knew that it was going to be full of amazing action scenes; at the same, the inclusion of Jim Carrey just boosted the humor profile tenfold.
There is some great news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans. On Thursday, 28th May, Paramount Pictures announced that they are going to produce a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog.
Paramount Pictures also stated that Jeff Fowler was going to return as the director with Pat Casey and Josh Miller returning as scriptwriters. The producers for the new film will be Neal H. Moritz, Toru Nakahara, and Toby Ascher.
Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and Tim Miller will be the film’s executive producers. No details about the cast or the production start date have been announced yet.
Sonic the Hedgehog earned 70,002,074 USD to rank number 1 over its holiday opening weekend from 14th to 17th February 2020. The film digitally debuted on 31st March and was shipped over DVD and Blu-Ray discs from 19th May.
The film was slated to premiere as Sonic the Movie on 27th March in Japan but was delayed due to the pandemic.
According to the Box Office Mojo website, the film grossed 146,066,470 USD overtaking Detective Pikachu (with a gross of 144,105,346 USD) as the number 1 game based film in the United States. The film earned 160,700,000 USD internationally to achieve a total worldwide gross of 306,766,470 USD.
The Titular character Sonic is voiced by Ben Schwartz, and Jim Carrey plays the role of Robotnik, the villain. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter also star in the film.
About Sonic
Sonic is a blue extra-terrestrial hedgehog who has the power of incredible speed. When he lands on earth, he tries to live secretly but by mistake knocks out the power grid one day by sending electromagnetic pulses.
Dr. Robotnik, an evil genius recruited by the US military to find the reason behind the power-outage, discovers Sonic and plans to use his unique power for world domination. Sonic has to stop Robotnik at all costs.
