Riverdale Season 4 Gets a Mellower End Due to Production Shutdown

As much as the makers of pop teen drama Riverdale wanted to end season 4 with yet another cliffhanger, they were cheated by coronavirus into settling for a mellower conclusion instead.

The 22 episode season was brought to an abrupt end with only 19 episodes, the last of which aired recently.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic’s recession, it’s likely that there will be a long wait before fans can watch the actual conclusion planned for season 4.

Season 5, will there be one?

While the fifth installment of the indulgent high school story was announced long back, there is no fixed date for its release.

The fourth season ended just before the senior prom of the central four characters of the story. According to the show’s creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, over two-thirds of the next episode of season 4 was already shot before production was shut down. But many ‘big’ and ’emotional’ scenes were remaining, and so it was decided to conclude the series when it did.

What can we expect in season 5?

Season 4 saw an open-ended finale concerning the Riverdale High principal, Mr. Honey.

Speaking about the episode 19, Aguirre-Sacasa said,

“The fun thing about [Episode] 19 is all of the kids are in the story together, which is very rare for us. So I thought, ‘You know what? Since we are cutting the season short, maybe the best thing to do is end with [Episode] 19, which is a really strong, fun episode, and then come back and have prom as our season premiere next season’.”

Season five will not only give a proper farewell to high school to Betty, Jughead, Archie, and Veronica; it will also see them go off to college.
