It has only been a couple of weeks, and the newly-launched Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are encountering multiple gameplay issues. While many of them are somewhat common, a recently discovered bug will surely affect the gameplay drastically if it is not fixed soon.
A Twitter user, who goes by the name of @Sibuna_Switch, was one of the first to discover the issue with the Battle Stadium Mode of the game, where the random number generator used the same seed for every battle.
Normally this number changes at the start of every new battle. This affects the moves with varying accuracy levels directly, so whether the move will hit or not stays random. However, because of the same seed being used, the certainty of a move hitting becomes predictable.
In general, one-hit KO moves have lower accuracy, but with the same RNG seed being generated, a move like Sheer Cold hits every time. On the other hand, a Reddit user also brought up the same issue. In his case, it was the “Frost Breath” move getting missed every time despite having 90% accuracy.
This gives the players an advantage because they can now select the moves whenever they enter the Battle Stadium. Unfortunately, with Ranked Battles approaching soon, this will not be good in terms of player experience.
If left unchecked, this will also affect the Online Competitions, which will arrive in the spring of next year.
The silver lining is that the RNG seed issue is only confined to the Battle Stadium. According to @Sibuna_Switch, Link Battles, Wild Battles, and Tera Raids are still working as they should be.
In the first three days, Nintendo recently announced that the game had the highest global sales for any software on any Nintendo platform, with over ten million units sold. However, they do need to fix the performance issues as quickly as possible, especially the RNG seed issue, before the Ranked Battles.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are said to be richer with features compared to their predecessors, and the performance issues like these are generally fixed soon. Let’s hope that the upcoming events are not affected by these issues, and they get fixed.
