July 22 is a special day for One Piece fans as it has been termed the One Piece Day by the Japanese Anniversary Association.
Eiichiro Oda pleasantly surprised fans with a One Piece illustration that gave rise to many theories and speculations on what would happen next.
However, the illustration was not the end of it. A special live stream to commemorate the 23rd Anniversary of One Piece manga was also held.
The live stream included the voice actors of Luffy and Ussop, i.e., Mayumi Tanake and Kappei Yamaguchi.
One of the current editors of One Piece, Takano Kane, said something that piqued the interest of all One Piece fans.
As translated by sandman AP in a tweet, the editor commented that one of the upcoming chapters of One Piece made him cry, something which has never happened before.
Though Takano Kane has been an editor for just a year, moving an editor to tears is no small feat. What plot twist could have put such an impact on Takano?
One Piece is not the type of manga that actively searches for ways to make the readers tear up, but neither does it shy away from killing off characters. In chapter 985 of One Piece, Orochi was killed by Kaido.
In another tweet by a fan, it is pointed out that the teary chapter might be chapter 987.
The question that remains is whether the tears were of joy or sadness. Did Luffy finally get something that he has long desired for, or did someone sacrifice themselves?
The answer lies in the upcoming chapters, and fans have to wait with bated breaths till then.
