Pirate Crews and the Quest for Laugh Tale: Deciphering the Road Poneglyphs in One Piece

The nearly 2-decade long-running series, One Piece, will enter its end-game soon with the release of chapter 1109.

Since this announcement, fans have started wondering who is closest to Laugh Tale, the last island on the Grand Line housing the treasured One Piece.

A unique trait about this island is that its location cannot be deciphered from a log pose as the Log Pose cannot reset and point toward the next island on Lodestar Island (The island before Laugh Tale). Instead, the needles will just spin indefinitely.

The location of Laugh Tale can be found by aligning four distinct locations indicated by four Poneglyphs called the Road Poneglyphs.

In this article, I will tell you which pirate crew owns how many road poneglyphs and, in turn, answer the question of Who is Closest To Laugh Tale.

1. The Strawhat Pirates

With three of the four Road poneglyphs needed to find Laugh Tale, the Straw Hat Pirates are closest to reaching Laugh Tale.

The strawhats found their first poneglyph with the help of Nekomamushi and his friends. The Straw Hat Pirates uncovered the Poneglyph of Zou, which was hidden within the Whale Tree.

The second road poneglyph was found by Brook during the Sanji Retrieval mission on Whole Cake Island. Brook saw the poneglyph in Big Mom’s treasure room and copied its contents.

The last poneglyph in possession of Luffy and his crew is the Poneglyph of Wano, which they obtained a copy of when Kozuki Sukiyaki allowed Robin to view this Poneglyph after they saved his people.

2. The Blackbeard Pirates

Currently, the Blackbeard Pirates have copies of two poneglyphs, specifically the Zou and Wano Poneglyphs.

The crew got these poneglyphs by snatching them from Law and his crew of the Heart Pirates after they had defeated them in combat.

3. Red-Haired Pirates

With the Poneglyph of Wano and the Poneglyph of Whole Cake Chateau, Shanks owns two poneglyphs.

As a result of their victory over Eustass Kid, they got their hands on these two poneglyphs.

4. Heart Pirates

The Heart Pirates is led by Trafalgar D. Water Law, a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and a member of the Worst Generation. As such, the Heart Pirates have a role to play in the end game.

Law had copies of 2 poneglyphs, namely the poneglyphs of Wano and Zou.

But after the events that transpired on Wano, the crew was assaulted by the Blackbeard Pirates on Winner Island, and they were utterly defeated in battle, and their copies were stolen.

Right now, the Heart Pirates do not own any poneglyphs.

5. Kid Pirates

Just like Law, Eustass Kid was also a member of the Worst Generation.

Before the Wano arc, Kid had managed to collect the poneglyphs of Wano and Whole Cake Island. But, after the events in Wano, the crew attempted to attack the Red Hair Pirates on Elbaf.

Shanks defeated Kid in the subsequent combat, resulting in their poneglyphs being stolen and their ship being destroyed.

Currently, Eustass Kid and his crew do not own any road poneglyphs.

6. Big Mom Pirates

The Big Mom Pirates currently own a single poneglyph, and while it is unknown how she came into possession of this road poneglyph,  Charlotte has had this poneglyph in her possession since Gol D. Roger set out on the quest to find Laugh Tale.

Big Mom has this Poneglyph in her room of treasure on the Whole Cake Island with 2 other poneglyphs of unknown purposes.

7. Beasts Pirates

The Beasts Pirates, led by Kaidou, another former Emperor, also has a single poneglyph.
