Since launching on February 26th, Co-op horror game R.E.P.O. has launched its first major update, with developer Semiwork inviting the community to test and give feedback.
An open beta is now live, giving players an early look at the update before its full release. Let’s take a look at it together and unpack the new stuff that awaits us!
1. R.E.P.O. First Big Update Launches in Open Beta

The R.E.P.O. open beta is live, and players can dive in now. However, since it’s still in testing, some features may not work properly, and bugs are expected.
For the smoothest experience, players may prefer to wait for the full release of the first update. To access it, right-click REPO on Steam, go to Properties > Betas, and switch from “None” to “Beta.”
REPO’s unexpected success has slightly slowed its development. “We slept once and have been awake ever since,” the devs joked, noting the first big update “will take a bit longer” than expected.
2. R.E.P.O. New Update – Upcoming Content, Bug Fixes, and Fan Feedback

Semiwork hasn’t shared full patch notes yet—likely because the update is still in progress—but they’ve teased a few new features and changes.
i. New Content and Bug Fixes

The latest R.E.P.O. update brings a wealth of new content, headlined by a brand-new level called Avant-Garde, along with a server list and random matchmaking, giving players more ways to connect and explore.
Another key feature is Overcharge: when players grab enemies, an Overcharge meter builds up. If it maxes out, it knocks players back. If multiple players grab the same enemy, the Overcharge is shared, and the effect hits everyone involved.
The popular health glitch is being fixed, though a stamina regen upgrade might be added as a trade-off. On top of that, the update fixes numerous bugs, ranging from small issues to major gameplay-impacting problems.
ii. New Gear and Items

- Pulse Pistol: A new firearm with unique behavior.
- Boltzap!: A new electric weapon/tool.
- Prodzap: Another zap-based weapon.
- Duck Bucket: It’s time to put the little fella in time-out.
iii. Gameplay Changes

R.E.P.O. has undergone a variety of changes in its latest update, affecting everything from microphone functionality and spectator mode to the UI and overall gameplay.
- Buffed Enemies: Enemy behavior has been rebalanced, with tweaks to how they respond to sound, manage weight, and react when stunned.
- Weapon UI: A redesigned battery UI now clearly shows one bar per use for easier tracking. Weapons have also been fine-tuned for better performance and feel.
- Extraction Warning: Extraction Points now issue warnings about which items may be at risk of being destroyed – I’m sure a lot of players are relieved to hear this one.
Fans hoping for a mimic-style monster, inspired by popular Lethal Company mods, may also be getting their wish fulfilled as the team has “had talks” about it, but says it would need to be “really interesting” to be included.
iv. Multiplayer Improvements

- Server List: Browse available servers for more control over matchmaking.
- Random Matchmaking: Quick access to available games without manual searching.
- Region Selector: Choose your server region for better connectivity.
- Lobby Passwords: Secure private matches with password protection.
- Kick Option: Hosts can now remove disruptive players from lobbies.
To experience all the new improvements and features firsthand, players are encouraged to jump into the open beta and try it out. To give feedback and join the community fun, here’s the link to the Official R.E.P.O. Discord Server.
3. How do I access the R.E.P.O. Open Beta and test the new update?

To join the open beta for R.E.P.O., head to your Steam library and right-click on the game. Select Properties, then navigate to the Betas tab. In the Beta Participation dropdown, choose “beta –> beta branch” to opt into the first update’s open beta.
“And with this, you guys can finalize the first update by providing us with feedback,” says the Dev. “We are so thankful for this amazing community, and we want to involve you guys directly wherever we can. So yeah, go play now.”
4. About R.E.P.O.
R.E.P.O. stands for “Retrieve, Extract, & Profit Operation,” a name that aptly describes its core gameplay. This chilling co-op experience challenges up to six players to join forces and navigate a creepy mansion, scavenging for valuable treasures to extract and profit from. With simple yet clever physics-based mechanics, R.E.P.O. creates hilariously unpredictable moments, adding a layer of comedic chaos to the horror elements.
