There will not be a second season of Teenage Bounty Hunters. It looks like fraternal twin sisters Blair and Sterling’s adventures as bounty hunters could not keep their show on Netflix’s renewed shows roster. Created by Kathleen Jordan and the team behind Orange Is The New Black and Glow, Teenage Bounty Hunters had a silly charm to it, that made way for entertaining satire.
A series about two siblings juggling their teenage life with bounty hunting is pretty interesting. It dealt with issues like exploring your sexuality in a religious and uptight environment and combined it with good old teenage drama. What could have been the reason behind its cancellation?
We can only guess. Netflix does not reveal viewership statistics but it is probably the lack of views that led to the axing of the show.
Although the reviews from viewers have been generally positive, not many people watched it. Netflix released the first season on August 14th, 2020. The Umbrella Academy season 2 released on July 31st to a lot of anticipation and ruled the streaming platform for days.
Even the dance drama Work It, which dropped on August 7th, garnered quite a lot of views. Despite its sharp dialogue and crackling chemistry, Teenage Bounty Hunters seemingly could not catch on.
Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic might also have been the reason behind the show’s cancellation. The entertainment industry has been badly affected with nearly all productions shutting down because of the lockdown. It is possible that Netflix is being a tad bit selective about the shows it renews.
The cancellation was met with exclamations of surprise and disbelief from the fans of the show. Unfortunately, Netflix’s decision has not changed. At the moment, Teenage Bounty Hunters has not been picked up by any other streaming site for a second season.
