After class, Cliff returns to his room and notices an open window that leaves him speechless. Later in the courtyard, Rudeus notices him getting beat up by some other students and interferes. They’ve already heard of his reputation and run away after seeing him.

He confides in Rudeus about his secret crush, Elinalise. He had seen her by the window multiple times and wanted Rudeus to introduce him to her. He asks Fitz what to do, and he suggests that he teach him and then leave the rest up to them.

After meeting her, Cliff asks her out immediately, and she grabs Rudeus to the side to discuss in secret. He suggests that she tell him about the curse and turn him down. The following day in class, Rudeus sees them together as they start dating.

After walking around, he notices that the mating season for most animals around the area has begun. The Academy also has duels of courtship taking place to decide the beast girls’ mates, and multiple beastmen challenge Rudeus.

Rudeus walks out into the courtyard and runs into a massive pile of fallen Beastmen and one demon standing atop them all. He introduces himself as Badigadi, The Demon Lord, and challenges Rudeus to a duel. He acknowledges his mana pool as one of the highest in the world.

He asks if he knows of the Man-God, but Badigadi says he knows nothing. In the conversation before the match, he accidentally mentions the Dragon God, which immediately makes Badigadi serious. The Demon Lord proposes a challenge: He will lose if Rudeus manages to beat him in one free spell.
